Hey guys.
all apologies if this question has been handled previously, I'm very tired, confused, & not pc savvy.
I play FF on ps3, so I'm lost as to PC shizzah.
anyway, my wife had a bunch of spyware and BS on my pc that I let slide for far too long. my dad was in town over the weekend, and helped me wipe/reformat to windows 7. my wife plays around (very sparsely) on FFXI so I know my machine runs the game. so I go to re-install, now that 7 is up, I put in the disk in the drive, the pc recognizes it, but when I click the auto-install, nothing happens -.-
any ideas?
sorry if I'm just stupid or w/e
<3 you guys

XD
I see far too many people think PCs are all supposed to just jump up and do things immediately, so it's a valid concern. D:
OH before I forget, you may need the updated PlayOnline Viewer for Vista/7 unless the Ultimate Collection comes with that now.

If you are using an older install disc of FFXI, the POL install isn't compatible with Win7 (I pop the disc in everytime and forget this fact when I install Vanadiel collection 2007.)
http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/download/media/vista01.html
Scroll down to the bottom, hit "agree" and it should start downloading a Pol install file. Install pol with that, then pop in discs to reinstall the rest of the game.

ya, I was hoping that was it, I don't think so though, it's not up on on task manager at all, & not trying to read the drive
this blows

Well... if he gets POL up, I hope he can install the rest of the game. I don't know what to do if your drive isn't reading the disc. :x Might have to buy digital download off Amazon or something.

It's reading because he says the whole splash screen pops up, but then he clicks and it doesn't do anything. I'm pretty sure it's POL.
Mosin, have you tried installing the game itself and seeing if it works that way?
You can't keep it that way cuz it needs POL to run but it would clear up whether your drive is actually reading the disc.

You'll have to run POL as administrator as well.

I think this did the trick. thanks A LOT! If you ever need a free plumbing or heating/air question, let me know, as that's all I can do to return the favor, I think you just saved me hours of fumbling around!
thanks to everyone else too, I saw there was another post or two as I write this.

you can only install pol from that link, if you need to install the rest of the game http://tehkrizz.net/
has a link to an image which you'd probably need to mount with daemon tools or something of the sort.
just curious what was your operating system before?

assuming you have less than 4gb of ram, there's no point.
I would have put XP on it, for compatibility purposes.
maybe x86 windows 7, but it's more of a nuisance than anything, would have probably dual booted it.
If I could find/make compatible drivers for my hardware I'd be running XP, but it's too new /sulk.

well I got through most of this process, but when I go to check FFXI files as shown, the option isn't there. I followed instructions and tried tpo file check, but there is no option for FFXI, only POL, & tetramaster.
I beg your help again friends!

i had the same issue mind u my disks are super old lol literally have ffxi/zilart 1 disk and all other expantions on sepreate disks.
im running win 7 64 bit on my new rig and ya download the vista POL once thats done pop in your cd it will see it but wont let u do anything. so what u do is explore the disk and open each folder and use setup.exe from there. yes its insanely slow that way but atleast ull get it working when it shows u where its going to install make sure its going to the correct location. will say something like c://playonline/FFXI(x86) or whatever then u know ur installing in the right spot. once thats done use the torrents and follow the instructions carefully to set them in the right places and just run a file check. if filecheck doesnt show up simply go to start the game it will do a file check there also. hope this helps if u need anymore info hit me up in tells later on i can get on my PC and try to explain it better.

I have the ultimate collection, idk if that changes things. I gotta run to a meeting though. this sucks. my dad lost all my wife's pictures when we put the new OS on. now I can't get FFXI back up for her. I feel like a failure. ; ;
