I haven't been able to get gear collector to quite do what I want for it to be perfect but it's certainly changed the way I play. Before only acts of god would get me to change jobs and once changed I hated changing back and usually some form of thumbscrews were necessary to make me.

As soon as I can figure out how to make GC put things away in certain areas when I job change then I can get what I want out of it.

Interesting to see that a lot of people keep their actual equipment in the Sack/Satchel that they can access anywhere. Seems weird to me cause you can't change jobs in the field so you might as well have it all in MH.

So based on that my setup seems to be.. (I currently play about 3 of my jobs, Monk and Black Mage being the 2 primary, and Thief being occasionally solo etc cause I'm still gearing it up)

Mog Safe - My main gear compartment. 1 set of gear I'll be wearing, the other 2 job's gear will be in the Safe. I change jobs, grab all the gear out for that job, then dump all the other gear back into Safe. It's never sorted so everything is grouped together by job/most recently used at bottom.

Storage - This is filled with the gear I hardly ever use. My Nation MH is more like a museum of my jobs. The 3 mannequins loaded up with gear for "retired" jobs like SAM or PLD. Also random AF/Relic etc goes in here for jobs I might level in the future. Its maxed out 80/80.

Mog Locker - The Locker is like misc gear storage. This is where all the gear goes for jobs that I am leveling for subs or whatever. I don't often use this stuff. But if I'm bored and wanna go solo my lvl 30-somethin PUP, I can access the gear from any city. Nin tools (for sub use or future leveling), HQ Organs, lower level gear, etc. Never sorted.

Mog Satchel - Now my Satchel is one of my anywhere-access bags. I keep all random but possibly emergency stuff here. Coffer Keys, Medicines (Holy water, antidotes, echos, oils, powders, etc), Food, extra arrows/bolts, Shihei, Warp cudgels, Fishing gear, Teleport/XP Rings/Capes, and Seals/Crests etc. Sorted

Mog Sack - And the most recently added storage is filled with the latest content. It's full of Abyssea NM pop items, Weapon Coins, AF Seals, AF +2 items, Geodes, Forgotten stuff, etc etc. Sorted

And that is how I've been doing it for years now. If I start to leveling another higher job then space becomes a problem with all the new gear. So I try to stick to 3. I've gone through and cleaned out space/retired jobs before to make room.

No but you can jump in to MH change jobs jump out and shift gear as you are on you way to an event or otherwise. I keep my primary jobs on my person at all times if I can.

Yea I figured that was the benefit. I find myself standing around doing nothing most of the time in the game. Shouts take forever to get together. I guess I'm not a very "active" player though. I stand around all day waiting for that one or two shout that has something I'm in the mood to do.

I keep all of my abyssea seals/+2s (which I probably will never use), various quest items, and saved up dyna currency in storage. I keep my gear in mog safe and locker, and DO NOT AUTO-SORT IT so that each job's gear stays roughly together (aside from pieces which are used on multiple jobs). In mog sack I keep crafting mats, crystals, consumables. In Satchel I keep situational gear like proc weapons and harvesting gear, as well as other misc items.

That, or you just can't hold everything in your active inventory. I'm 80+ on every job, probably around 150 for BLU all told.

Safe: Thf, Dnc, furniture (obviously), normal nin tools, various upgrade stuff. 80/80
Locker: Pld, Sam, Nin, combined nin tools, forgottens. 80/80
Satchel: All mage gear (whm, blm, rdm, sch, smn), retrace staffs. 80/80
Sack: Mnk, misc shared gear. Between sack and inventory (and assuming most portal slip stuff is stored) I'm around 110-120.
Storage: Misc low level gear, some smn gear, testing gear, upgrade items (seals, etc) for stuff that's very low priority, but is easier to track if I can see it. ~78/80.

Mules: Cor gear, brd gear, pup gear, lots of low level gear.

Think I currently have 12 out of 13 porter slips; 5 pages worth of items for the big ones (AF3+2, relic, relic-1), 2-3 pages worth for lessers (AF3NQ/acc, AF, AF+1, relic+2, sky, TAU, WotG), and a few items stored in relic+1 waiting for relic+2 upgrade.

Very heavily tempted to turn one of my mules into my 'mage' self so I could ship all that gear over to them. Have to see how much of what I have is restricted, though, and I'm kind of balking at the idea of having to redo all the quests and missions and such. (Looks like the only annoying limiter will be the restrictions on relic+2 gear that I already upgraded.) Actually.. hmm. Will have to look into this a bit more..

I'm sorry but I have to ask..

What the heck is with your avatar Austar.. What is she doing? Why does it look familiar? And why do I find myself attracted to her while she performs this ridiculous.. entrancing motion..

It's really no different than a standard xml. Granted you don't really need to be quite so organized if you are making it just for GC but as long as the name of the gear is in a tag(the version that you see in the inventory btw, not the full spelled out name) then it'll work.
Code
<set name="GC">
<main>Almace</main>
<main>Shikargar</main>
<main>Shamshir +3</main>
<tool>Shihei</tool>
<tool>Sanjaku-Tenugui</tool>
<tool>Shinobi-Tabi</tool>
</set>

I stuck this set in my xml to ensure that certain gear that wasn't in any of my normal sets would be placed in my inventory properly. Items in the rules section won't be parsed, only in sets.

As a note, you don't need to properly tag it, like you don't have to put <tool> as a tag for shihei, hell you could put <fthisshit> and it's work just as well as long as you close it properly.
