I've been using a Tornado from Totally Wicked for about a year and a half without a real cigarette. It's more expensive to start up than buying a carton of cigarettes, but the batteries for that model seem to last well over a year (I tried a lot of other models where batteries died in a couple of months) and you can buy substantial amounts of nicotine. I usually spend about $100 every 3 months or so instead of...I guess it was about $40-$50 / week for me. You can get different strengths of nicotine to step down lightly if you'd like as well. They don't make any official claims to help quit smoking, but it works well from my experience as a replacement. I suppose you might say you're no better off, but I'd say it's a big advantage to have no smoke, odor, ashes, etc. as well as just being addicted to nicotine instead of nicotine + every other addictive chemical in cigarettes.

That being said, I'm not sure how effective it is if your intent is to completely remove your addiction to nicotine and it will appear that you're smoking, of course. Usually people in bars give me funny looks, although lately people seem to understand what they are more often than not.

If you could get yourself down to let's say a pack a day, that would be a good goal to reach in your situation.

I've never really dealt with quitting any major addition... Soda was the worst I've ever had to deal with but this may help in understanding how to wage war against your own mind.

I quit smoking by picking up dipping. I quit dipping by munching on sunflower seeds all day. Thing about quitting is breaking the habit of smoking whenever you do certain things. I used to dip when I'd play FFXI, so I ate sunflower seeds instead. Smoke when you drive? Eat a sucker instead. The habit is harder to break than the nicotine addiction, at least it was for me.

Thats gonna be the hard part is finding something to break the habit. Thats when i noticed going crazy on other quit attempts was like 1st thing in the a.m....get up, piss, go smoke. Without the smoke i didn't know what to do w/ myself and got all jittery just cos i was so used to that set routine.

I vote for the Electronic cigarettes as my dad wanted to quit smoking after many years of doing it, and he got a couple of them with lots of different liquids etc. They do work, and he only has a real ciggie when DIY is involved!

If you enjoy smoking and don't really want to quit then these are the best idea because you still get the nicotine and your hands are doing the same smoking routine. But it just means you won't have the 200+ chemicals that EACH cigarette contains entering your body. And as someone said you can slowly reduce the amount of nicotine you take in by changing the strength of the liquid. They come in loads of flavours too from your normal brand of cigs to the weird and wonderful like bubblegum and chocolate.

You could also try hypnotherapy as one of my mum's friends did that and it worked straight away, she never touched a cig after that.

I have two sets of parents: all four of them have quit by trying cold turkey, failing, and retrying. Eventually, it just sticks. All amounts of time. They all tried patches and gum and said that it was just something else to rely on.

Idk much about patches since not a smoker but I thought patches where just to "ease" you into not smoking.....kind of like.....assisting with cold turkey....

Like not wearing them forever just until that certain time...
