Random Question thread (FFXI related)
By Dodik 2025-10-10 12:54:34
Well partly because of the TP for MP cost of impact, secondly because casting impact also gives a fat -20% stat down which, at its shortest duration which will be always on Aminon and other high level targets, will last ~19sec.
Even if you have both geo and rdm casting impact, there will be times where it won't be up. Having it up for more time means more damage for the party as a whole.
Also when I was doing Aminon I was the only one casting impact, so minimising recast was a very big dmg boost even without the TP gain.
As always, things vary depending on play style, the rest of the group and so forth like Buukki said.

Needed to unlock +3 for a job in Sortie, thought I'd do the exit & reenter chest in H while there but it didn't load when I zoned in. Not aware of there being any other requirements for this to pop but I haven't killed anything in sortie at all. What happened?
Exited again and reentered and it still didn't pop.

Be careful with your words. Just to clarify, my intent was to provide potentially useful numbers for all people reading the thread and maybe even you two.
I wasn't attempting to say "LAWLZ BUKKI AND NARIONT ARE WRONG!1!" because
1) I really do respect both of you
2) I don't think either of you is "wrong", for the same reasons you exposed.
Not sure if you guys already knew what I just wrote in this post, or if I accidentally came out wrong, because I would never do anything like that to you <3

Exited again and reentered and it still didn't pop. Someone in the update thread also stated they had issues getting this chest to pop, but I did a run last night and it popped just fine for us. Might just be a luck of the draw until some patching is done in Sortie since it seems to be a bit bugged atm.

Anyone ever effort max on RDM for the magian Shikargars that:
Weakens Attacks +16
and
Weakens Defense +16
I assume when they proc, that it's -16% of mob atk/def, but I am super curious on proc rate in current day, as well as duration.

Here is some very old testing I found regarding Defense Down path Shikargar.
Defense Down duration was found to be 1 minute maximum with a supposed 10% activation rate.
Edit: Nitric Baselard would be a better option if you want to inflict Defense Down on RDM.

Neither is a good option because proc rate is going to depend on magic accuracy, which will be ***without ilevel
By K123 2025-10-17 07:09:07
Would it share the same slot with Armor Break and Ageha too? Irrelevant if soloing on RDM of course but more wider.

Yes, those are all the "Defense Down" status effect.

I thought magic accuracy skill only applied to the MH so it should be fine beyond the garbage actual accuracy of the OH, but we've been using magian TP bonus for yrs now

This is not necessarily an issue for RDM, a job with a surplus of magic accuracy via gear, merits, Saboteur, and the ability to tank a target's magic evasion with Frazzle. Also, the 0 TP Enspell strategy has been used with great effect using non-ilvl weapons while still maintaining sufficient magic accuracy for quite some time. Magic accuracy would only really be a concern for targets with exceptionally high wind elemental resistance ranks or those with particularly high magic evasion.

How much TH in a TH set "Fulltime" is too much? for thf
How much does this have an effect on proc rate?

personally any that impedes kill speed, get the max for tag and just kill normally as the upgrade chance outside of feint/SA/TA is pretty poor after TH10 or so with or without TH gear and its effects are ~1% per tier
By Dodik 2025-10-18 14:47:04
TH cap for gear is TH8 for main job thf.
By Nariont 2025-10-18 14:51:39
Think he's asking if a TH build to build it up after the initial tag is worthwhile, and what effects it has, which is usually very minimal unless its already a high drop which is gonna be on trash and +8's enough. Exceptions maybe something like Dyna-D volte pieces

How are the item images on BG Wiki generated? I've noticed that the Arrapago Ring enchantments are wrong, and while I could fix the enchantment details, I figured the image needs updating as well.
(10/10 enchantments, 1h cooldown, 30 second wait time for usage. Disappointment compared to the supposed infinite enchantments)

I looked at Thorny's data, which I had trouble understanding at first.
Just looking at the 10-11 it takes more hits wearing more TH gear
I am wondering if swapping those useless extra th pieces for more lets say crit or TA is what changes the number of hits before a proc occurs in the higher levels.
By Dodik 2025-10-18 15:38:43
Yes, I was saying anything more than TH8 in gear will not affect TH9+ proc rate, and Thorny's data seems to suggest that too, within margin of error.
Same for crits, within margin of error. Wiki says only first hit can proc TH.

Theres no known correlation between crits and TH procs. That was a rumour based on increased chance when using SA or TA.

When an Enfeebling gear piece says, "Enfeebling Magic Effect +x" what does that increase exactly? Duration? Potency? Both?

How does one increase the potency (not duration) of those debuffs?
I guess bind's removal threshold could be adjusted by potency, but lets be honest here:
Bind on a mob is removed when we look at it the wrong way.

Bind magically never gets removed when one under leveled ghost manages to land it on you while you're training a handful of monsters that are wailing on you.
The rules:
Bind by player: wears off immediately by ANY damage.
Bind by mob: never wears off until you're near death
By Kaffy 2025-10-19 02:15:25
I wasn't sure I was remembering correctly, but yeah this might have had something to do with why

Relevant page for enfeebling magic. There are lots of nuances and details that are often overlooked by unaware players. Worth reading and trying to understand nearly everything on that page, especially for RDMs.

Bind on a mob is removed when we look at it the wrong way. I'm genuinely amazed that bind on a mob is not removed by casting another non-damaging debuff on that mob.
because it sure as hell feels like it falls off to a stiff breeze
By Elad 2025-10-19 12:35:33
Semi-related: it's BS that mobs build resistance to enfeebles over time but players don't. It's a mechanic that would be very engaging if it worked consistently (they'd just have to maybe tweak some of the initial debuff values) but instead, in its current iteration, it's nothing but frustrating.
Good example was the Weapons ambu a couple months ago with the AoE stun. Instead of getting stunned for 8 seconds every 10 sec for the entire fight, make the stun initially stronger, but have it be harder and harder to land as the fight goes on. You'd feel accomplished for surviving a 20sec stun early in the fight if that means the 15th stun the damn mob cast will either not stick or last only a couple sec.
Note: I'm still very salty from a recent farming session of Orcfeltrap with its unremovable sleep. If you didn't get the SC to kill the mob within the first few sec, you can potentially get chain-slept for a good 5 min, it's ridiculous for such an otherwise lame NM. Even if this ends up being a "skill issue" where there is a way to work around it, my point about resist consistency remains: this disparity doesn't make the mechanic engaging at all.
For those of you that visit Bg you already know the premise of this thread but for those that don't, it's simple.
