Random Question thread (FFXI related)

It's pretty bad, ngl.
Today spent a couple hours in ulegrand. Farmed up 11 iron plates and 15 colorless souls.
The enture time I has my amber light at 40
In that time, I only ever saw a si gle gold chest that gave pops, it had 2 snow god cores in it.
About... 95% easily of my chests were blue. Got TEs out the whazzoo sure, but I'd barely ever even see gold caskets.
I'd do a cleave of like 15+ chests and get zero gold chests at all quite often.
I'll probably finish all my iron plates and souls and maybe, if Im lucky, assemble a single apademak popset lol.
I think I'll just focus on burning down the plates/souls, that way I don't have to pussyfoot around ruby kills hots with savage blade, and then do my horns in a couple weeks when abyssea lights turn off for a week.
If SE just made azure get set to like 100, this would be way less of an issue, but oh well.

It's a stand out campaign in that its the only thing id consider an anti-campaign. Good for people who want to easily stay in aby i guess but most of those people are doing to to farm something and constant red/blue chest reeeeeaaaally gets in the way of that

It's a campaign that's good for newbies or new characters. If you're new to XI, time extensions are more valuable, particularly to non-mages. Not every character has a gorillion Traverser Stones stocked.

If you're going after KI in boxes you want to be capped Amber.
If you're going after non-KI you want to be around 80-100.
Ruby is the killer of gold boxes, so keep that as low as possible.
Pearl needs to be capped when doing any boxes.
Avoid Golden/Silver/Ebon lights at all costs too.
Plan on burning through hundreds of keys. One neat thing about big gold box farming is your target indicator icon will appear higher when targeting a big box than a small one. Very useful when you're cleaving big groups.

Back read previous page and saw Vyre say 40-48 Amber. BG says 48-64 Amber for NM pop items. I've always used 80-100 with good success. FFXIclopdia has 4 different tiers for gold boxes based on the input number.
I didn't realize there is such a range of info out there on this. I guess you'll have to flip a coin on who to listen to.
I vote not me =P

BG-wiki says 48-64 for farming empy feet and rare pop items. Higher for KI items.
Quote: Small Gold Pyxis - 230 Pearl 48-64 Amber 0 Azure - Empyrean footwear farming in Scars zones.
NM Pop item farming in Heroes zones.
E.g Gaining Sisyphus Fragments while farming Apademak.
Large Gold Pyxis - 230 Pearl 255 Amber Optional: 128 Azure - Key Item Key Item boxes for NM farming
It is accurate IME. I wouldn't bother trying to farm empy feet during lights campaign - been there and it's a waste of time.

apademak you let some other sucker farm the sisyphus frags and just buy them. bring as many pops as you have characters each time you zone in, then kill sisyphus while you're there. no drop, back to the AH.
can't find a link, but heroes zones (uleguerand, altepa, grauberg) lights have a zone bonus of some kind and are much harder to keep at low levels, especially when you start adding ebon from NMs. to clarify, you can get capped boxes with lower light values compared to other zones.

I vote not me =P I believe that number will vary depending on how many Abyssite of Destiny they have.

This is the real issue, I agree with 40-48 personally but you still want to reset periodically if ebon grows too high. I prefer to do it when the abyssea campaign isn't on because azure auto-caps. Put a couple characters at 40 amber, cap azure on one and hit like 1 cleave every half hour with it to get TEs.
Stupid design to have some of the most desirable items not be available in highest tier box.
let some other sucker farm the sisyphus frags and just buy them Definitely easiest if you have 2-4 chars, no fancy bots, and are on Asura. I can knock out 75 horns from scratch in 2.5 hours though, and it'd take nearly a month for enough frags to pass through Leviathan AH.
If you're single boxing, the travel time is a kick in the nuts. If you're not on Asura, supply probably sucks. If you've got good tools it's no big deal anyway.
By Dodik 2025-08-27 08:48:24
Real small server OGs keep sisyphus frags on an eternal rotation in their inboxes which they bought over a period of months/years just on the off chance they want to farm Sisyphus for whatever reason.

I believe this as well, I have 3/3 so I start seeing KIs at like 48 amber.
I believe this also ups your rate of chests though so, it just behaves as if you had additional light baseline.
I dunno if there's a cap, IE with capped azure and 3x blue chest abyssite, does it give me even more weight on blue chests?
If so, that maybe is why I have issues. Itd be interesting to test I suppose.

Farm or buy tiger hides in advance. That's all really. Or ummm iunnno pop some TH gear and go farm it when the objective comes up. Literally takes 5 minutes in batallia downs with TH2 on. People paying 200k a stack smh

We are talking about the rare flagged tiger king hide in abby altep

With all due respect...WTF other tiger hide would he be talking about?

I'm pretty sure they nerfed amber chests years ago. You used to be able to limit to small chests, but they made it so you can get large chests even with low light. It still works, but not nearly as effective as it used to be sadly. RIP easy money.
By Nariont 2025-08-27 12:19:59
Idk, you might get the occasional large chest but its pretty uncommon at that 40-48 range iirc, can still get plenty of rare AHable pops from the later aby zones really easy

How realistic would my chances me of doing Albumen on WAR if I pop it on WAR to supertank while I sleep the adds on BRD (can give myself COR rolls on 2nd char then come back on BRD too)?
Would just a single WAR with COR+BRD buffs be enough damage to kill it before 2nd adds pop? Or does it really need a dedicated tank because of the en-debuffs and potential 50% HP down etc?

I would say you will do it 9/10 times if you keep full Sakpata ideally with null back and WS in nyame/Sakpata or similar meva gear.
By Dodik 2025-08-29 06:52:07
Have done Albumen with as little as four, and Sam tanking everything.
It may/may not be dead in 2min, depends on your dps. Will need to account for sleeping an extra set of adds at 2min.
By K123 2025-08-29 08:42:43
While sleeping the first set you mean? I think my WAR might have more meva but I could do SAM too.

Is fTP on Savage Blade gradual, or do you have to reach 2000 and 3000 TP to yield the higher fTP effects?
I'm thinking specifically about the 500 TP Bonus on Moonshade Earring. All things considered with nothing else equipped, will I see an fTP bonus at 1000 natural TP, or do I need to wait until I hit 1500 natural TP to trigger the fTP equivalent of 2000 TP?

Unless I'm mistaken and I've been wrong on my understanding of this the entire time, they are anchor points and the fTP values are linear formulas between 1000-1999 and 2000-3000, opposed to a parabola across 1000 and 3000.
[+]
By Dodik 2025-08-29 14:09:17
It varies between WS. Savage blade is not linear from 1k-3k, you always want to be at 2k effective before doing it. The bump from 2k to 3k is far less.
Prime WS are all linear ftp scaling from 1k to 3k.
Moonshade is 250 tp btw, not 500.

News to me, where is this proven and why don't wiki pages explain this on each ws?
By Nariont 2025-08-29 14:38:43
You could always just look at the anchor points of the WS and determine that yourself.

The wiki pages show the 1000, 2000, and 3000 TP values. If the difference between 1000 and 2000 is the same as the difference between 2000 and 3000, then the WS is linear from 1k to 3k. It shouldn't need further explanation than that.

Moonshade is 250 tp btw, not 500. That answer is worded... poorly.
It is linear from 1000 to 2000 and linear from 2000 to 3000, but the increase is greater to 2k than 3k.
