It's a good game.
But I didn't like the ending, it brought closure sure, but I wasn't satisfied in the slightest. :/

I forget was the ending to Chrono Cross any good? I can't remember it.
I can't remember any ending really. I remember beating the Time Devourer and then there was the credits with a Japanese song and I can't remember anything, if there was anything, after. Been meaning to replay the game again, but keep getting distracted. D:

Really? I remember not thinking very highly of the ending, or at least of the three choices after everything wrapped up. Been a long time since I've played though.

I'm not trying to put down your choice, moreso curious why it made your list.

I don't know if I'd put it on a top 5 list but Shadow Hearts: Covenant had a very touching "good" ending, especially if you had played through both endings of the previous game.

Bought it. Disc is scratched and won't even play. Waiting on a friend to send me her copy so I can play through it.

Where did you buy it from that you couldn't return it?
I could've. But I procrastinated until it was too late.

I'd like to know how FFVIII made so many lists. All I remember about it was them on a boat with a video camera. I remember being highly disappointed with it and felt it almost wasn't worth the play through. To each their own I guess.

I never beat FFVIII. My game glitched, and I couldn't progress. Then my disks were scratched. Then I lost my save data. I then proceeded to ragequit.

One day I'll play through it.

The plot devices were generic, but the story itself was not really.
It was also a relatively well constructed within gameplay mechanics as well so I can't leave much fault there. Generic-ness aside, what matters most is not the story being told but how it's being told. It makes a world of difference as I've seen plenty of games with great potential but a failure to deliver in a manner that would do it justice.
Hell, even a bad story with all it's flaws can provide a degree of entertainment and appeal to your imagination if it's presented and told well.

I remember hating FF8 all together. Way too much plot convience that made no sense, like finding a friggin airship in the middle of space moments away from death, a completly POINTLESS flashback system which served nothing to the main story and hating the magic system. But thats just me.

Krizz doesnt seem to have much luck with discs :\

Actually, I've only had a total of three discs that I have had scratched to the point where I couldn't play them.

I can't remember what the third one was. It was a PS game though.

Totally biased but my favorite ending would have to be from Chrono Trigger. The order of balance restored across all eras of time with the happy ending and ending theme just puts a smile on my face thinking about it. Plus it ended in such a fashion that enabled it to stand alone as a timeless piece or to be expanded upon for future titles as done with Chrono Cross, which also delivered a stellar, albeit complicated story.

Runner up would be FF6, which had an excellent truly awe inspiring ending, but only comes in second place because it was so damned bittersweet. Though I suppose those kinds are the best as they have such a stark contrast between what gives you joy and admiration and what leaves you sullen and depressed.

I'm rate my all time favorite endings based on how I felt after I completed the game whether it be from the sheer emotion I felt or how much I felt like I actually accomplished something.

1. Mother 3-Never have I cried so much at the end of a game its such a magnificent game and its ending leaves you bawling hysterically.

2. Earthbound(no surprise there)-It's ending was so personal. You could either take Paula straight home after beating the game or take your time and talk to EVERY single NPC in the game in the various cities and locations and talk to them and get some new dialogue that congratulates you on what a feat you just accomplished all while listening to one of the most heart filled songs in the game(Because I loved you). Excellent game.

3. Sonic Adventure 2(WHAT!? NOT AN RPG!?)-Yes I know, but can you really blame me? After having such an epic final battle as both Super Sonic and Hyper Shadow all while listening to "Live and Learn" which gets you so pumped for the fight it's insane. It was astounding.

4. Dragon Quest 8-To be fair I don't quite remember the ending all that much I just remember feeling satisfied that everything got resolved and that it was such a great game.

before tl;dr gonna break up this post :)

Earthbound gets my third and well deserved place for this song alone.
The fact that it lets you bask in the aftermath of your achievements with the coffee, tea, and free world and the music that accompanies it warrants mention. Plus the music epitomizes something so beautiful yet humble... similar to walking home after your first date which ended with a simple kiss of happiness and mutual affection towards one another. Listen for yourself~

Plus a game that is so lighthearted in nature yet delivers such an impressionable and humble story and outcome and honors homage to various awesome music artists like The Beatles, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Chuck Berry, David Bowie, etc. as well as other memorable and notable pop culture icons makes this game truly unique and amazing.

Still working on Mother 3. Haven't had much time to tinker with my GBA emulator so I'm still on chapter 5 :/

I think ff8 had a great ending mainly because Eyes on Me is a beautiful song...I didnt put it simply because I never actually finished the game. I Played through it 3 times and jacked up my game at or before the final boss fight and couldnt move forward. No game has ever pissed me off so much. Also the story and environment did not really appeal to me.

Zelda I Didnt put just because while I think theyre awesome games....I dont really remember the endings at all. I seem to remember oot kinda just going to credits after zelda thanks you. I like when endings take you into the where-our-heros-are-now or a grand finale cutscene.

I didn't want to say Chrono Trigger or FF6 because I figured anyone born within the golden age of RPGs would know that if you didn't play them/finish them your breathing privileges were revoked instantly.(lol)

Anyway back to my list.

5. Golden Sun: The Lost Age-Man it was great. It tied up lose ends that the first one had, opened up room for a sequel(which I think is important too), and when you see the main characters hug their parents again you can't help but get teary eyed.

6. Pokemon Red & Blue-I don't care who you are but the first time you finished the Elite Four, saw your team on the Hall of Fame, and saw the credits roll you didn't feel like you did something amazing. Maybe it was cause I was really young but I remember how great I felt and bragging it to all the neighborhood kids lol.

7. FFXI:CoP-Yes CoP. Oldschool CoP before level caps were removed from the BCNMs. It was SUCH an accomplishment. I remember screaming "Yataa!!!" over my vent mic once I finally did it back in the day lol. Finally getting Rajas Ring, getting to hear a vocal song in FFXI, and seeing the story come to close was just plain breathtaking.

I haven't really played too many games and actually beaten them frankly, but here is my list in loose order:

1. Halo: Reach
2. Metal Gear Solid 2
3. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
4. Halo 3
5. Metal Gear Solid 3
6. Final Fantasy XI: Chains of Promathia
7. Halo 1
8. Ace Combat 4
9. Ace Combat 5
10. Phantasy Star Universe

I think I see how CoD: Black Ops is #1, probably because the game being over would be the a glorious moment.

I loved FF8's ending because I'm a sucker for time travel/causal loops o_o It all just really tied together nicely. It's not my favorite FF by a long shot but I think it easily has the best ending.

I think generally this is a difficult question because my favorite games don't necessarily have the best endings. I think it figures because a good game is a game you don't really want to see end, and I'm not even sure if the best possible ending for a great game can't help but come across as anticlimactic.

KH
KH:CoM
KHII
KH:356/2D
KH:BBS

K but honestly since I am such a fan of Kingdom Hearts, the ending of BBS was probably my favorite game ending ever, just because of the gap that KH and KH II left in terms of how it ties in the main villain of the whole series.

My real list would probably be:

FFVII: Crisis Core
FFX
Megaman X5
KH:BBS
KH1
