The mouse is hated by majority of players for a huge reason, it isn't sensitive enough. Unlike the analog sticks of controllers, if you want to move your character you are constricted to set degrees which is not pleasant.
It is better than trying to control the camera with a keyboard though, so I can't really say a mouse is worse than a keyboard. I simply can not understand why it is so strict though, to me it seems like it should be exactly the same as an analog stick, where if I want to move 5 degrees to the right I should be able to, not 45 degrees.
It is a personal preference, and everyone has their own opinion, but I'd be very impressed with anyone capable of using the mouse and perform just as well as someone using a controller, or keyboard.
Still don't see how it takes 90 minutes to fix though.
Every update always takes at least 90 minutes. Most likely has to do with powering down and powering up the servers.

Haven't played much lately, due to Star Wars: The Old Republic, first thing I did when I logged on was try to move using WASD and control the camera with the mouse, instant WTF moment and realization of just how bad using those in FFXI is. . .

This is also SE we are talking about here. They probably still take the servers down. And there is most likely other tweaks they need to do, like always.

Something's not working properly, so they're fixing it. I don't see the problem.
There could be something else that isn't "working as intended" or such. I noticed that if you have damage numbers displayed on screen, they appear in a really big font size - bigger than some of the mobs you're actually damaging more often than not. Could be that or some other stuff.

But yea, this can't be for the mouse. It would just be one of those non urgent updates that you can still play the game but when you log out you have to install it before you log back in.
This has something more to do with something breaking, but they probably aren't talking about it because it might be taken advantage of? Or just the general attitude "they don't work here why do they need to know?".

The mouse is hated by majority of players for a huge reason, it isn't sensitive enough. Unlike the analog sticks of controllers, if you want to move your character you are limited to set degrees which is not pleasant.

Not to sound cocky but watch me play. You'd have no idea I used my touch pad and not a controller. On a side note I'm sure they are fixing something else too.

Probably the thing that if you port up in nyzul while slept you get left behind on the floor and can take the whole group up again.

Touch pad... ugh I'd rather just quit. No offense >.>; but I've quit exp parties back in the day because my controller stopped working.
That, and I just hate EXP'ing so it was a welcomed disappointment for me lol >.>;

At any rate, something is broke, and they fixing it, not really sure why people are shocked, they always do this after an update.

Its ok I hissy fitted about the touch pad being broken because controller/wasd pisses me off way too much and I suck. I did salvage with friends on sam I couldn't target or engage fast. It was beyond frustrating lol. Also agreed on old exp parties. "OH STORM COMING IN GUYS OH NOOOO TORNADO!!!!!!" /dcs.

It couldn't possibly be for the mouse yet I haven't heard anything else about something being wrong (until Sawtelle mentioned nyzul).

Seemed like a perfectly logical reason as to why they would do an emergency maintenance honestly.

I didn't want to fool you! I wanted to fool other people, but ya, I thought it sounded possible+ exploitable enough to require a fast fix! Those make the best rumors.

Quote: I love how the stuff they break is usually better than the stuff they implement. The game functions better without having to worry about my character running off in random directions because I closed a window.
mouse_blockinput 1
type that in you init.txt page and never worry about the mouse again.

I don't know how people use a mouse/keyboard combination for gaming. Not just this game but all other PC games, I just can't deal with it. Obviously we have to use a keyboard for typing (inB4 smart arse comments) but moving etc is horrible!
Controllers are they way forward, I use my 360 for FFXI but I have a wired pad for my PC.
Has anyone else noticed on the select character screen, the gold ends that are on the name labels of your characters have gone really 64bit and blocky? I wonder if that will be fixed because it never used to look like that before the update.

Just think...
If a normal update is 2 hours, and it takes them 90 minutes to fix a mouse issue, they're adding 30 minutes of content per update, and avoiding mouse issues for the other hour and a half of downtime.
