So with the incoming server merges, anyone else believe they should just merge servers, rather than giving players the choice to choose which servers they go to? I actually Like the players on my server and I would prefer to stay with as many as I can, but due to different end game shells, everyone seems to split on where to head D:
As nice as it is that they changed so many things on FFXIV and have such a detailed roadmap for the future, I do find this is worrisome news in light of their planned PS3 release. :/
I would imagine they would want to retain server capacity ahead of such a big release instead of cutting it back. I suppose almost a year lead-time they still could open new servers later, but it just seems they are already scaling things to match the realistic numbers generated by those subscriptions retained after fees were re-assessed and free-play was removed. ;_;

Once the PS3 release went into limbo, to only have it finally be announced for maybe 2013, over 2 years after the PC release, this was a sign of more things to come that aren't so good.
Personally I believe she should have happened months ago, but now that they are finally doing it, I'd really like to see a server merge rather than a server reshuffle.
lol I like all the people saying "omg this is a bad sign, FFXIV's done for." ha
So some info for people who do not play FFXIV so you can understand what's actually going on. This has been planed since Yoshi-P took over because they made too many servers to start with and the players want it. Why? Because after the initial FFXIV launch we lost a lot of players as everyone knows, those were a lot of people coming from WoW and other places and that rush of influx made the servers unbalanced. It's just one of the many things they needed to do. If anything server populations are up from 6 months ago (1.16~) because the game is so much better.
For me being on Fabul a lower populated server this is welcome news, its gonna make FFXIV even better. ^^
btw they are chaining the game engine too although not with this change it's in 2.0. SE licensed this from Epic. This is the new engine FFXIV 2.0 will be based on.
XIV is actually shaping up quite nicely! While they are merging the servers now I do believe they are releasing brand new servers (more of them too!) with release of 2.0.
The game is far from dead...the dev team are putting a lot of work into the game..I am enjoying playing it and look forward to 2.0. Also we are getting AF in a week or so ^.^
I think it's about time they did this. On Fabul it can take hours to find a party to do anything and if you want a party for something in particular it becomes even more difficult. This is definitely a good sign rather than a bad one.
Also that game engine looks amazing, I seriously can't wait for 2.0!

Very very *** cool.
Yep but they only using stuff like the lighting but the team who made that engine is working on the ffxiv version so i can't wait i just hope ffxiv 2.0 look better or around the same as 1.0 version and run 10x better :)
Yeah it's going to run better, scale better, (meaning it will run better on a wider range of PC's), and lighting elements and other factors will look better.. probably much better in our case if you compare. There are many areas they can improve using that engine. I'm very excited about this.
I wasn't actually aware that they already licensed Unreal Engine 3 for multiple projects. (Including XIV.) This has me that much more excited about what the end result will look like when it goes live.

I agree, I like the people on my server too, but I see this an an opportunity to meet many more new and interesting people and I'm hoping this makes game play a better experience...Despite the one choco, Kashuan isn't that quiet, but more people are still needed so I'm happy to merge whichever way SE decides and I look forward to meeting you =)
Just some info for those not playing XIV and curious of it. The server merge isn't as bad as some might think. With the unveiling of Version 2.0 a couple of months away the servers will be added again. For now due to a lower Pay2play base the merging is to help connect some of the smaller servers with some of the bigger ones like where I come from. The ps3 beta is later this year as well and will bring in a higher group of people who wanted to play but couldn't because of the higher PC demands.
For now we are witnessing a once only set of events, items, mounts that will not be obtainable at the 2.0 release. A story line unobtainable after 2.0 and many other things that paying customers only now have the opportunity to get or be a part of. one such item being my new friend, Gus. Say hi gus
This link here will take you to the things we are looking forward to later this month of Febuary when we get hit with another big patch. It includes Residence, jobs(PLD WAR MNK BLM WHM BRD DRG) and AF, and new dungeons! http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/36474
On top of all this its only like half price to play right now so I suggest giving it a try, collect some rare things you wont get after 2.0 and enjoy a new adventure.
Also were looking at 3 new races come to play in XIV:
Female Roegadyn(galkas) ((top left))
Female Highlanders ((Bottom left))
Male Miqote(mithra) ((bottom right))
AF
So dust off from Abyssea and come play with us! <3
I conclude this with two videos made my my good friend and awesome leader Casslee
2:30 of Gobbue fun
(remember can only get Gobbues for limited time only!)
