FFXI PS2 partition increasing soon?

We will be increasing the partition size for FFXI on PS2 in a future update and and as it only affects a small number of users (specifically PS3 20GB HDD users), we chose this route so as not to confuse those that utilize other systems/harddrive configurations.

Looks like they're increasing the PS2 HDD partition from 12GB to 21GB (not like it's needed for anything else these days).
That's a huge jump and somewhat unexpected...a sign of new content?

It would be interesting to see what good comes out of this. I'm not expecting anything game changing, but what would come out of more disk space?

I think they're just planning for the future (for once). They're not going to use up 9 gigs all at once, but if the game continues another 10 years I'm sure they'd like to have it available.
No more ps2 limitations? O.o I think quite conversely that this means PS2 support is planned for the foreseeable future.

doubt it, they could easily recode it to where you could save the phrases you manually add in much like markers and macros to a file on the hdd, the load time may be limited by the hdd speed, which is a lot more of a bottleneck than the ram size.

when you play FFXI on the ps3, you're really playing on the ps2 version.
from my knowledge this can only be done on 3 models, the 60, 80 and 20gb models (first of each, if not accurate don't kill me)
so on the 20gb ps3 this increase will apparently kill ffxi for it, sucks for them, their only hope is to possibly swap their ps3 hdd, whether or not it will allow a manual increase and to still get online I'm not sure...
(the partition size will be increased beyond the physical hdd space of the 20gb ps3) as it's impossible to have a logical partition bigger than the physical drive it's on, well you get the idea.

The size of the partition allocated for FFXI PS2 version is changing from 12gb to 21gb; this change will force PS3 20gb HDD users to either upgrade their drive or switch to windows.

interestingly enough this would also be an issue with the 20gb 360 users, unless they can deal with a smaller partition size, or nobody uses those anymore, idk...

40 GB and there's a lot of free space. I've got mine at 22/40 and that's with Resident Evil Outbreak data installed. So plenty of space since like no games (besides the Outbreak series that I can think of) used the HDD lol

interestingly enough this would also be an issue with the 20gb 360 users, unless they can deal with a smaller partition size, or nobody uses those anymore, idk... due to xbox's weird need to have a bunch of open space on the HDD to play XI, people with 20GB HDDs already couldn't play XI (at least it was like that. I'd imagine it didn't change). I remember a friend of mine played it, and when he had less than 40GB of free space, XI would just not work. Cleared up some space and its fine again... Xbox doesn't really like XI >.>

I'm probably getting my hopes up here, but SE said they would announce something special for the 10 year anniversary. So maybe an expansion wouldn't be too far fetched... though... being a ten year old game i'd wonder if they'd wanna go that far to add onto it. guess we'll soon find out

Iirc I had a 360 with a 20gb hard drive when I first played, I eventually replaced the hdd with a 120gb, I can't recall if I had any issues with that but I did have issues.
But you're right the 360 really doesn't like FFXI, even my slim will crash when playing it (Abyssea) and my old 360 I couldn't do besieged or a lot of things... would always lock up before finished...

I have an Samsung 320GB HDD on my CECHB01 PoS3 (Yes, Piece'o "that" three). Originally it was using an 20GB Seagate HDD. If you use the built in contents backup facility FFXI gets backed up along with whatever you have on the harddrive. So again, DON'T PANIC...
Now, I suppose they may finally fix the horrid NPC lock-up bug.
