so i plugged up my 360 controller and my laptop installed the drivers from it and i see a box under controllers called XInput. my question is how to use my controller to play?
yeah, but i cant figure out how to get the program to recognize that i have a controller lol. the drivers downloaded that much im sure of. after that im lost. imagine my face like this:
haha hmmm my only suggestion is to possibly look into settings and look for controller source....there's normally a choice for that. Idk what the proper name for it but iirc they're normally a default source which is the keyboard. And if the emulator recognizes the controller, you could change there....
You're best bet really is to go the site the emulator came from and check the forums (if it has one) sure there's instructions for it somewhere....
I used PCSX2 about a year ago to play FF12 on my rig. Ran @1080 flawlessly and looked unbelievably superior to the original on a regular TV. (To be fair, quad core @4ghz ain't gona struggle)
The console itself was actually more than capable of exceeding standard definition TV resolution,(removed some bad info) I think GT4 was actually in 1080i and maybe a handful of other games.
Having an emulator that can force scale the textures end emulate anti-aliasing renders graphics how they should look, placing PS2 games towards the end of it's lifecycle consistantly above even current Wii titles. The console was quite literally ahead of it's time, games developers intially complained about the systems emotion engine being difficult to work with, but end of life titles were impressively rendered despite it's age. Frankly, if you had released, say, God of War II, Shadow of Collusus and FF12 as release titles, people would have thought the PS2 had missed a generation. I personally think it remains the most impressive and scalable hardware in a console to date.
In other news, about a week ago I tried to run FF12 again now I am reduced to a lowly laptop. With the wounderous powers of an Intel GMA 950, 3gb ram and a 2.0Ghz Core 2 processor, I still managed to run the game at ~45 fps (stock ps2 resolution, all speed hacks enabled no frame skipping(is bollox)). Unfortunately this is still ~75% playable speed so moving a touch slow, sound out of sync, essentially unplayable. But I did notice that while it merked my CPU, my GPU was left relatively unused (ram yes, cpu cycles no). The majority of the emulation work appears to be CPU cycles and as such a beefy processor would seem to be the main component to a decent frame rate. I would wager after market effects like anti aliasing etc are chucked onto the gpu, I never tested.
Point is, I reckon you could get playable frame rate from most all GPUs assuming a 2.8~3.2Ghz multi-core CPU. That is my assumption at least.
my problem isnt a playable framerate, its playing at all. im trying to configure the program so i can use my 360 controller (apparently lilypad is used for this, but its grayed out) and i just dont know what to do at all.
looking under devices and printers, it has my 360 controller listed as unspecified, have no idea what that means but maybe it has something to do with it?
so i plugged up my 360 controller and my laptop installed the drivers from it and i see a box under controllers called XInput. my question is how to use my controller to play?
Config --> Controllers (Pad) --> Plugin Settings
Bottom left should be a box labeled "Device Diagnostics", refresh it with controller plugged in. Should see "DX XBOX 360 For Windows (Controller)".
At this point, goto the tab at the top "Pad 1" and configure all the buttons manually.
If all else fails and you are certain your 360 controller is correctly installed, you can goto Config --> Plugin/Bios Selecter and try another controller plugini. Or use Xpadder as mentioned before.
Sounds like drivers did not install or installed incorrectly. What O/S?
Rather than device & printers, goto "System" and "Device Manager" (will be a tab in XP if memory serves). There will more than likely be a Yellow exclamation somewhere indicating an unknown driver or something to that effect.
unfortunately windows can be somewhat ambiguous with it's intepretation of "working properly". I still put money on drivers, ie it has assigned some stock driver to it, said driver is reporting "yeh im all good buddy" thus windows thinks is all good... but isn't.
Personally, I would download whatever the latest relevant driver is for my particular O/S, and install them. It is generally not necessary these days to remove old drivers first, but won't hurt either.
As a quick test, goto Start > Run > "joy.cpl"
It should show "XBOX 360 For Windows (Controller)", clicking properties on which will allow you to test the buttons/analog sticks with a visual representation of button input. There is also a calibration feature that claims to resolve some issues but I have never needed to use it.
Edit: As an after thought, would also be prudent to try an alternate USB port.

Did it show your controller? did the controller succefully respond to input?
It is never easy to try to resolve an issue remotely, would require psychic powers lol.
you can use the ps3 controller with the tool via bluetooth if you set it up right, but it can be annoying at times to set it right and have the analogs and L 1/2 R 1/2 buttons work properly
I think the default ps2 profile works for it iirc.
and you won't need xpadder for that emulator the only things that I know of that you would need that for is some cross-platform games that the pc versions don't do controller support, and MKFusion (stupid gamemaker not supporting controllers)
just wondering if anyone knows where to get a good and working ps2 emulator?
I have 10 invites to Underground Gamer if anyone wants. If your into retro gaming, this place has everything. Keep in mind this isn't a free leech site like Demonoid and you must keep up a certain ratio. They do have featured torrents which is not counted towards your ratio and is changed every week.

Get something else so we can get newer stuff for ffxi lol
again, the ps2 has nothing to do with the lack of new content for XI, learn technology.
Even if PS2 was the culprit, I don't get what a PS2 Emulator has to do with FFXI. If I'm playing PS2 games on an emulator, I'm clearly playing PS2 games on my PC. Any computer capable of running PCSX2 is capable of running FFXI, so the comment really made no sense.

it doesn't
what's funny is I am told that the ps2 emulator can almost do dmca, therefore soon (if not already) one could emulate a ps2 on the pc and play ffxi on the emulator, that'd just be funny.
