The time caps at 120 mins for obtaining visilant status but isn't limited with obtaining time extensions. You can obtain Abyssites that allow you to build stones faster which can go up to 8 hours real life time per stone.

Yea. Starts at 20hours/stone and each stone is 30min inside abyssea. There are abyssites that allow you to get a stone every 8hours and for each stone to = 48min inside abyssea.
EDIT: ONE SECOND THIS TIME!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
EDIT2: although we are giving slightly different info so its ok :)

Also there are KI's that add additional time to each stone you use. I see, so there are negative times then also? What is the max time to have? And are there quests to get in?

You can only start with up to 120 minutes using stones, but you can earn time in abyssea.
There is no cap (as far as I'm aware of) of how much time you can have in there. I've had up to 24 hours or more after an exp party.

Someone put a SS of having over 12 real life days of time in Abyssea.

There is no max time that im aware of, theres ss's of people having well over 1000min+ from time extensions.
This should help you get started:
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Abyssea
As for the -4hour abyssites:
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Azure_Abyssite_of_Celerity
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Crimson_Abyssite_of_Celerity
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Ivory_Abyssite_of_Celerity
Like stated many times before, highly suggest you try to get those 3 abyssites first.

Red chests have a random light and power of light in them.
Gold have items, key items, and rare? key items. Not sure if rare is the appropriate term but you can't get them from blue chests.

There are rare items. I seen Flame Gem drop in Altepa and last time I checked they were 800k.

Also that depends on what job you want to level first or what job you want to gear first. I would suggest doing BST since you are going to be by yourself for awhile BST is going to help you get started and get gear you want.

Some Relic +2 have been able to surpass some gear as well.

I was thinking of going BST and THF for starters in order to feed my PLD gear needs :P
When I played my BST was geared for literally every situation imaginable and I had many pages of macros just for BST so it'd be nice to get back into it

Mostly plds now in VW are Ochain or Aegis with Almace since Atonement is no match for Almace which is the Empy Sword. Might be different to your server but not in Bahamut. I always see an Ochain/Aegis in Voidwatch.
But Pld in abyssea is useless. Monk and Ninja are the best tanks in there.

I see, I assume ochain is equal in difficulty to obtaining the aegis also? And btw, are relics still like ridiculous amounts of gil to obtain? Or does the general admission dynamis lower it?

Ochain is a pain in the *** to get but Aegis is still better now. They still cost about 100 mil but can take 3 months+ straight forward farming everyday in dreams.
Edit: Ochain has roughly a 85% block Rate

If you are coming back a good way to start is get into an Abyssea xp pt and accrue as much cruor as you can. For now ONLY go in to Abyssea with a pt so you never use your stone and they start accruing. Once you have 9k cruor buy the Ivory Abyssite of Celerity. This will drop your stone restock rate from 20 hours down to 16 hours AND retroactively change your stones in stock. This will turn your 5-10 stones into another 20% more. Then do the quest "A Ward to End all Wards" in Abby Vunkerl by buying as many 2-3 star items as you can carry. Repeat this until you can talk to Rahal in Abby Vunkerl and do the Whither the Whisker quest. Trade him a Black Whisker and now you're getting stones every 12 hours, retroactively going back and adding 33% to your stones in stock. Next find a small pt and head into Abby Konschtat and kill Tonberry until you get your 3rd Celerity Abyssite and you're now getting a new stone every 8 hours!
Meanwhile make sure to get in on any Abyssea zone wins. At 1 you can get 1 atma infused. For 100k cruor you can buy an abyssite to get your 2nd infused. Also check for shouts in Jeuno for ppl doing atma runs and get as many as you can.

So to enter abyssea and stay with your visiter's pass, you need to use a stone. But if you go with a party you can go in on their stone instead of my own? Meaning I can save mine for extra time later?

Sorry for being unclear. If you go with a pt you will still have to use a stone to get your time, but when you're done with the pt you will have mroe than 120min, so you can leave and re-enter without using stones. Nowadays even the worst xp pt will have you end with more than 120 min, which means your personal stock of stones will never go down. It just builds up and then grows when you add a celerity abyssite.
These are some good reads on how things work in Abyssea:
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Abyssea_Lights
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Category:Abyssite
Ahoy, so I'm not one for the forums but I've played FF from the NA release until late 2009ish and I'm thinking about returning once my new CC comes in the mail. As you can imagine, a lot has changed since I left... (85 cap was shortly on its way when I decided to quit and abyssia was just being announced) So I'm going to need to be informed on a few things if anyone could spare the time. First off, do you still gain like 200 exp with a band effect on even at chain 200? That seems a little harsh for a 99 cap since 42k when I played took almost an entire day depending on the party. Also, what is abyssia, void watch etc? I know OF it just not the details on how it works and what makes it different from the normal game world. Also a new fishing system? I used to love fishing. And lastly (sorry to be a bother) but I played on the Alexander server, which apparently was wiped or something? If I need to choose a new server does anyone have any suggestions? :]
I'm sorry if that didn't make much sense I'm posting from a portable device so it's hard to read back what I've written very well.
TL;DR
What's new in XI since 80 cap and how do things work now?
Thank you
