Where do people get this stuff about SE taking XI's profits to fund XIV? lol, I've always said it just to make sense of it.
14 has no monthly fees for the longest time while FFXI really doesn't get any updates and is thrown excuses that they cant do this and that because it would be too expensive. I've read so many dev responses saying they can't do it because it would be too expensive. Where are our monthly fees going to?
My guess is to the players who are draining 14 dry w/o paying for months. We keep up the costs to run both games while they play for free.
Isn't like that anymore, at least not as much now. Do I have proof? Of course not, but why the hell can't we afford a simple update to a simple system that any decent programmer at home could do if they had access to the source code. The excuse isn't because it would be too expensive to do based on the money XI brings in, it's too expensive because XI was supporting two MMORPGS's while the 14's game population didn't have to pay and just mooched (not at the fault of the players of course).
Whether it is true or not, I personally believe XI was supporting XIV while it was failing hard after it's opening. We were paying to play a game that wasn't being updated to pay for a game that we didn't even play for. It's kinda hard for me not to see it that way after reading all the responses over these months.

Thats like saying though that they re-released FFV, FFVI and Crono Trigger because they had no money.
If SE was really hurting for money to pay for XIV, all they would even have to do is re-release and HD version of FFVII.
Honestly, by saying "its to expensive" it means "the game is way to old to put that much money into it"

i am not happy about these trials, however, these are the ultimate end game weapons! level cap isn't going to rise from lvl 99 (at least not for a very very long time) these are the best of the best, your suppose dt ospend the next few years or more to do these. this is hard, this is how ffxi shoudl be, not everyone shoudl be walking around with a glowy weapon.... i am sad tho i'm looking at 2+ years farming alexandrite, and 2+ years spamming pandemonium warden.. bleh
So pretty much your only aspiration in life for the next 2-5 years is to get a 1337 digital item from an already 10 year old game? Because that's what it will take to get a 99 Relic/Mythic. In fact, going to post a quote from the official forum that best summarizes this mindset.
So are most people gonna start successful companies, build spectacular inventions, create masterful art and find amazing discoveries over the next 2-5 years if they didn't play FFXI grinding for 99 glowing weapons? Haha... no. They will watch TV, surf the internet, drink at bars and play other games instead. What do you get from those? (Nothing, porn, hangover, and other digital glowing weapons :P ).
Let's be honest, most of the people who create, build and discover are doing/will do so whether they play FFXI or not. The rest of us, who consume, will continue to consume, whether the product is FFXI, sci-fi novel, or hard liquor does not matter.
It annoys me when people try to pretend that they'd do something more aspiration worthy if they weren't playing FFXI (or other games or MMORPGS for that matter). If you're gonna do big stuff, then go do it, why are you wasting time on a forum talking about a game being a waste of time.
Otherwise, come, have a good and fun discussion, and don't bring up how you'd spend your time for better things if only SE would allow you to do so with easy/short trials.

Don't forget about the Mini-expansions. I believe they used that to help fund 14 as well.
Those expansions were so basic in every way.

Do people genuinely believe you are required to obtain 1000 of these items? Seriously?..
They aren't going to do that. The really really aren't. It's incredibly unrealistic and SE, laying your opinions aside, are not that stupid! Does anyone else agree here?..
I think where said items drop from will remain the same. However, the number required to complete the trial is subject to change. They have released the items for the trial before actually opening the trial up for completion; which is interesting. It allows them to monitor how many of these items are in circulation and possibly what happens to them. Valuble information if you're looking to find a number low enough to make the trial reasonable/realistic -- yet high enough to create a sense of ultimate acchievement.
And as Kalilla said earlier. I agree, i don't think SE wants them to be tested (not yet at least). I wouldn't be suprised if they just realesed the trials into the game and let Afterglow and the new relics be a suprise to the first that obtained them! I miss that excitement :(..

I asked the Devs about this trial and they explained, they are still working on the details at the moment, and the number of needed items can change.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (few more h's)... are you seriously comparing heavy metal plates to a single (key word) drop from Arch-DL, a NM that you can only pop during a 2-hour timed event? Are you out of your mind?

They just love to toy with the possibility of those numbers going live still.. lol
Once again they use the word "can" instead of "will". They don't realize that they could eliminate the hatred towards Tanaka just a tiny bit at least if they chose better words.. Yet they still choose to play with everyone's minds and enable more anger/frustration to exist. Such a HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE move... lol

People believe it because their track record supports it. You would be safe to keep your expectations low, it doesn't pay to be an optimist with SE.

they're clearly gonna change it with what the rep said
From 1000 to 999 and from 500 to 499
or maybe even make it higher!

I can see empyreans staying the same, but I see the number for relic/mythic items dropping significantly.
