For a better read pick up this month issue of Game Informer. This is the best i could find from their website.

Game Informer Blog said: Final Fantasy Type-O, formerly Final Fantasy Agito XIII, should not be released in the US on the PSP, but instead an enhanced version on the PSVita. I am excited for Type-O, the game-play looks different and fun, but releasing it on a dying system would be a bad idea. The Sony PSP was released in 2005 and it has had some great games, but Vita is on the horizon, early 2012. Releasing a top notch game on a system already replaced will not garner an exciting amount of sales, but as launch title for an exciting new system could. Now I am not saying Square Enix should go back to the drawing board and delayed the US release for a couple of years, just that Square Enix could imitate Atlus with their release of Devil Survivor Overclocked and more voice acting and up-rez the graphics a little.
Due to the game size, Square Enix is already being forced to release FF Type-O on two UMD, which increases the production costs. I am sure releasing Type-O on one NVG card would be cheaper than two UMDs.
One of the primary problems with the PSP stateside was the lack of well know quality games. Sure, there are many gems for the PSP, but most gamers either don't know about them or don't think there are enough to warrant the purchase of a PSP. This encourages Sony to work with publishers, like Square Enix, to produce high profile games for the Vita within the launch window. Sony is very aware of the current problems with the 3DS and its lack high profile games to keep hardware sales up. So therefore, Sony would benefit from the US release of FF Type-O on the Vita, instead of the JP release on the PSP. If Sony can benefit from something, then Square Enix can encourage Sony either to subsidize the Type-O Vita production or Type-O Vita marketing. Square Enix also then can re-release Type-O Vita again in JP, as international version or something else, and make more money. The JP audience seems to not mind repurchasing some Square Enix products, but then again I don't mind either, I have purchased Advent Children's four different versions.
I purchased Devil Survivor when it was released. I got stuck in the 3rd or 4th day so I put it down. But, I recently managed to purchase the 3DS at Walmart and I plan to purchase Devil Survivor Overclocked. This is a great example of adding a couple extra details to a last generation game and then releasing it on the new platform. The current marketplace for the 3DS is a little bare and a great game like Devil Survivor can make an impact. Square Enix can follow this idea, I am sure more people will purchase Type-O for the Vita, than for the PSP.
SIDEBAR --- I am of the mind that games should not be announced until they are at most 18 months away from release. Announcing Agito in 2006 and not releasing it until 2011/2012 is bad idea in the first place. Perhaps if Agito was released in 2008, maybe the PSP's path would have different in the US. Just as Final Fantasy XIII Versus was announced long long ago, there is certain line between early talking about a game to build up antecipation or tell you about game that might be release within the current generation of consoles.
Sure I know that Type-0 will be release Stateside on the PSP, but a guy can dream, can't he?
My opinion based on the fact that i've played FF:CC and the remake of FFIV on PSP, I'd like to see this game come out for PSP and it looks to be a promising FF title for the hand held on the fact that the battle system is a lock-on action base like FF:CC but it revisits a somewhat old system where you can switch out job/class/character mid battle. Mind you, I'm not a huge fan of hand held gaming. (tho i do hook up my PSP to my TV to play PSP Games)
As for two UMD, might be a killer in the term of replay value unless they fix it with a install data for it when it comes stateside but then i'd be concerned with if any of the game was cut out and readjusted for the smaller size. While i would like it for the PSP and if it came out for Vita, it be a long wait before i get a chance to play it. Not one to rush out and grab a system for -one- game.
What's your opinion?

I have Type-0, just it's in full Japanese which is simply unbearable in an Action RPG for me. I don't have the cell phone game, which is Before Crisis iirc when you're SHIN-RA members.

Ah. Came out on Oct. 27th, I'm so behind @.@. I say Japan got all the cool stuff when FFXII was the thing, ringtone, cellphones, , potion drinks, etc. :P
Can you give us a grasp on the story? The review wasn't too clear on the story either except for the intro and as to what it could gather from the TGS Gameplay demo.
If they do actually make a english patch then i'll get a imported PSP and get then. Nobody certain for a stateside release due to PSP Poor sales.

I haven't touched it actually, I just have it. Been playing other stuff. I have no idea what the hell the story is. I'd look for a wikipedia or something for that.
If you want an English patch, should one come out, you'll need CFW on your PSP, but I dunno if we can really discuss that here.

Know what CFW is but the risk of breaking seems so... not appealing to me or so thats the risk i've heard when CFW used so i just wait for the official version to come out.
LOl i know what you mean by not having played it yet. I've been behind on some games in that same sense.

So i've had the wrong impression. Not much of a hand held gamer. PSP while its old, some of it still 'new' to me =P

Considered LCFW. Still on the fence about it. Maybe this FF title will push me to the other side as long as i can still hook it up to my TV ^_^ Using PSP2000

Its pretty neat. Only downside is you have to start it every time you turn your PSP on. But I've been using it for about 5 months and haven't had any issues with it. Waiting on a complete MHP 3rd patch to come out. :/

There's already a patch out that's good enough. Doesn't translate the story or mission details (It's Monster Hunter ffs, just kill the targets/harvest whatever) but every item/menu is pretty much translated.
The Taiko game I'm playing has a Monster Hunter mix on it xD
I'd need a bigger memory stick for Type-0 though, which is another reason I don't have it on my PSP atm (just computer). It's about 4gigs .____________.

I can tell you right now: NO ONE is gonna fully translate that game any time soon, if at all. Not worth the time lol. It used to annoy me a bit too, then you realize, it's not important at all. You're missin' out, I love MHP3rd

On topic though, my friends are playing Type-0 still even in full Japanese. It's possible and they're having fun, so I know it's a great game. Just wanna AT LEAST have my "Attack" button in English and menus.

Yeah saw that when reading about LCFW using the flash memory idea. Funny i wont rush to use something like LCFW but anything else free = on it. Actually in USA its not illegal to use custom mods in the sense to be able to 'unlock' a system full potential but can be else where. According to Digital Millennium Copyright Act but when it comes to the PSP, I'm more careful i guess. Its the game of trusting the creator than not considering i do have a PSN account and such. So its a more safe than sorry for me but if i were to do something like CFW or LCFW, i'd use another psp i can pick up from the pawnshop dirt cheap.

i actually did a forum search before talking about FF T-O >.> because i actually thought it might of been talked about considering we are a fan base of SE (in the sense we play a SE game) and i was a bit shocked to find it was not talked about already.
Aside from the basics, of this game. Do you think SE taking a large direction in to wanting to release more FF titles on hand held and not just remakes as we have seen A LOT of lately? I'm considering that this FF title might be a test water project in the sense its different from XII and not XII related (as FF:CC) FF:WoTL was a reskin of FFT, Do you think if enough consumers were to buy this game that SE might actually make more portable titles?

While this is true, but as a consumer i'd pay the five bucks for a old game knowing its fully working and working in best performance condition it can and the simple fact when i do pay the five bucks for a PSOne classic, i really enjoyed that game and like to show my support for that company and its products. While my opinion on this can start a whole new topic, i'll say this much. The difference between free and paying is the difference in what is reasonable easy to replace. Paying = forever and ever stored off-site while not 100% safe (and nothing really is) i see paying as I'm able to re-download anytime i feel like playing it again. I was all for Free back in the 90's (before downloads) and if a CD broke, had to buy it again. Now in today current times with the consumer, we don't have to re-buy something in order to replace. When it comes to anything Digital. So the end result is, paying is my support like people buy CD's for the cover art because they wanna show their support for the band.
