If SE want to develop the game they need the financial backing to do it granted they have made the changes so far but you cant redevelop a game without some sort of income to pay wages etc. i personally think that the world is ready for 2.0, and feel SE have gone out of there way to redevelop and start again from scratch, without the people behind it putting money into the game, whats the point of developing it.

I look forward to 2.0~
YoshiP and the new DEVteam have more than shown that they're perfectly capable of delivering on the promises they've made thus far, so I see no reason to believe it won't do well. It may struggle at first, but if they deliver on everything they mentioned for 2.0 I can bet it'll be a success.

The debate on the billing cycle (if you've ever looked at the official forums...God help that mess) is a downright ugly one, and as Dema pointed out you can't expect this new content to come straight out of SE's pocket, regardless of whether or not they can afford to do so. The game is enjoyable and close enough to a "proper launch" state that I myself am willing to pay for it.

A little faith goes a long way.
My two cents anyway.

While i agree that SE should pay for the new content entirely, we should get a prorated rate for helping them build this game, feed back for the game, puting up with its many failures, and the fact we did spend money on the game that anybody that was a beta test would attest to would say the game wasnt ready. I think a 50% of what the billing use to be is appropriate and all new people after that is regular price.

SE should pay for new content but we should get a prorated rate for playing the game?

For a game that "wasn't ready" compounded by a massive natural disaster they took approximately a 3.5 million dollar loss in three months. That is only part of the picture, you can look at the financial reports here:

http://www.square-enix.com/eng/news/pdf/12q1earnings.pdf

Getting a discount for playing the game is a novel idea. Maybe you could share the criteria for discounts. Even with a monthly set fee, those who played more (i.e. put in more game hours) should accrue a larger discount than those who didn't perhaps. That of course would be contested by those who actually played the game versus those who actually stayed online but weren't playing 'the AFK effect'. Then we could get into forcing SE to pay it's staff to build systems and spend man hours and resources just to figure out those kind of things and spend more money from its losses. Or could we, you? do that for them.

That's tongue in cheek of course, you probably have done something very noteworthy, other than playing the game and making one post to deserve that discount.

My advice, you don't like the game, don't play it and stop wasting your money. If you are waiting for some wonder product to come out before you play, then wait. If more of you 'who think that you should be paid to play' do that SE may possibly extend it's free play for people who like playing the game. Yey, for us! That's a win/win situation, no? And of course, if they really can't come up with something good then their losses will continue and bye bye FFXIV.

Its hard to say :/ I'll have to wait and see how 1.20 is first...

I do enjoy the game but I feel it needs bit more work and content before p2p. I feel it should have working AH, global chat, search features, UI overhaul, lot more quests...the typical stuff most mmo have when launched :)

Either way I'll p2p no problem...just hoping they fix stuff :)

I for one can't wait for 2.0 I understand that they want to start billing for FFXIV to get more funds in the back to try and get the game back on track - I however entirely understand if a significant number of people do not wish to pay for a game that should have been released as 2.0 anyways.

I personally among others I know have had the game installed and tried it every few patches but found it to be rather sh*t to be honest. We will be trying again at 2.0. Until then we decided we are going to hold onto our money since there is no point paying for a product that hasn't paid for itself in enjoyability.

2.0 Looks very promising. I have been very critical of FFXIV ever since release - I have purposefully looked at the game and tried to find good points but the bad points were just overwhelming and more numerous than the good points. If 2.0 lives up to expectations then chances are I'm going to resubscribe along with a bunch of my teamspeak/linkshell members.

@ Xellith October 2013 is a long time to wait to play a game again. I would definitely have lost interest if I stopped now and moved on to plenty of other games.

I'm paying because my friends are going to and I think the game will be worthy of a monthly fee not just now but for the next almost 2 years of content still to be released.

I bought the game at retail thinking that the beta test was lacking features of the full release. I got a kick in the nuts when I realized I was playing the full game and cancelled my account 13 months ago because the game sucked in just about every way possible.

I've been keeping up on the progress of the current state of FFXIV, but I still feel the same way about it today as I did when I quit. The game is garbage and a giant waste of time. Why would I want to pay to play a game that will be completely different in a little over a year?

The 2.0 version they've announced looks good and I might decide to play at that time, but for now I still have the same stance I did 13 months ago: I'm not paying to play this game and I want a refund for the garbage I bought.

Yes, I know there are all sorts of FFXIV lovers here and me posting this on a FFXIV forum is asking to be flamed. Oh well.

I think that's a fair comment. I had the same feelings about Windows 'ME', my first Ipod, and buying a copy of Bullet Witch all because they had been given good reviews. The first two had technical issues and the last was just 'pants'.

There are different reasons why people would want to play a game that will be different. One reason I can see from talking to friends is that they like the FF products in general and are willing to put their faith in SE coming up with something better than what they have now. That may be an irrational belief and totally open to question, but they think so. So, its totally reasonable that others wouldn't see that as a good reason.

I can understand the thinking that if SE doesn't reset levels as certain games like Halo did or you can do voluntarily in the CoD series, then players may bank on having a head start over the new people who will come to play the game. If you have gotten your craft skills and job skills to max, then the game changes with all new content, you are going to be among a small number of people who can go out and do things before the hordes of others can. This was kinda idea was blown apart in FF11 with Abyssea because it meant great gear was no longer the right of HNM groups or those prepared to buy from HNM groups. It also created massive congestion around NM pops and in my experience lots of head-butting over trigger NMs. It also encouraged increased party time in my view. This is one thing I think FFXIV has gotten right. The emphasis that you can do things in the game without having to party for six hours straight.

But....we never know what's going to happen. It's all a calculated gamble...and could be...they reset the levels. Then these forums will be filled with angry people shouting SE TOOK MY LIFE!, schadenfreude ftw!

Edit: Those same irrational beliefs are one reason some people are collecting the onion gear sets....just in case one day, they like um..be upgraded into something uber, lmao.
