I've had mine since they first came out. Got mine before they sold out the first time I think. Might've been the second wave. Either way, I've had it since then, though I have had breaks in play time.

I have definitely had mine since the first wave...been playing pretty solid since then. The token has not shown any signs of failing and is going strong. I wouldn't even worry.

I use mine multiple times a day and have had it from the very start of their sales. Haven't had problems.

I just started playing again after a 7 month break. I'm not sure when they were released so I'm not sure before that. Though I played steadily for 2.5 years before that or so.

They should be manufactured with a battery lifetime equivalent to the key length (or longer). That is the way most key tokens are made.

A friend of mine told me he loved to carry the Security ID token wherever he goes...he said it was like "holding his character in his hand."

I was shocked, and told him I'd never bring it away from my computer LOL...I am deathly afraid that accidentally pushing the button more times than I have to (or having it accidentally be pushed while in my bag or pocket) will eventually wear out the battery. ^_-

To explain my neurosis over this, when I first got mine it took two weeks to arrive in the mail. Some people (on here even) were saying it took at least that long if not 2 months or more to get theirs...so I just imagined how bad it would be for it to break sometime and have to wait that many weeks to get a replacement. :p

Since then, I've got the "free" one from FFXIV, so I have a replacement in case of emergency (so I don't freak out quite so badly anymore about it.) ;p

Mine is first production run, using it just about every single day... twice a day because i have 2 accounts, and clicking it because I just want to see a random set of 6 digits (or trying to get 000777)... Battery still pretty good.

And you can probably google how to replace the battery anyway, WOW uses the same dongles, and i'm pretty sure at least someone had a dead battery along the way seeing as they've had them a lot longer than we have.

got mine right when they were released and have used it fairly regularly for XI and XIV since then. no sign of dying battery yet... so you get your moneys worth i'd say, if/when it does die, can just pay $10 for another one (assuming they keep up their stock >.>)

My LCD watch with similar display ran non-stop for 6 years, so the token that is inactive most of the time would probably last decades.

More limiting factor may be the internal timer. I'm sure it's not 100% accurate, so the error increases gradually until it won't give the right numbers anymore, although a 30 second window is a pretty large leeway.

Registered it to my account on 30th April 2009, used regularly for FFXI and not-so regularly for FFXIV, though was using it 10/day logging into the Dev forums for FFXIV for about 6 months.

Little bugger's shown no sign of dying just yet, though got a back up in my FFXIV CE (once I've wiped off the dust...)

Got mine with the roll out; it died in a month. I had it on a key chain with the rest of my keys so it is possible the button was being pressed when in my pocket.

going to assume it uses a pic, and a 2032 battery, considering what that should be pulling, it should last a very long time, probably 5-6 years, plus or minus depending on use and environment conditions.

internal clock's on those type of ic's are extremely accurate, rolling code.

I have one that was given to me (they didn't use it anymore) and since I can't use it I may take it apart at some point to look at what's inside.

I'd have to find where I stuffed that thing though...
