Not trying to troll or create a sh*tstorm. Just wanted to get some information.
I have been vaguely reading about peoples' problems/responses to the new payment system for FFXI. Like all good sheeple, I just went and created a Clickandbuy account and transferred everything over. I feel like I am missing something though; am I going to get extra charges for using Clickandbuy? I have heard people talk about using PayPal (which I would prefer) but did not see the option when I transferred over. I'm also having issues getting my second character account onto my SE account.
So I guess any additional info would be helpful, but my main question is, am I going to receive extra fees for dealing with clickandbuy? :(

Yes you will receive extra fee, I get charge an extra 39 cents. That's the main reason I dislike them because I have to end up paying more than I did before..
To keep things simple I made a new SE account for all 3 characters. Havent had a problem yet.

And i like it because i'll pay less~
people hate C&B because they have a very bad reputation. So people don't feel safe using them... and they don't want to use crsyta ether because you end up losing 5~ dollars because of how the system works (plus you will have to constantly put money into it to keep playing.. that is a hassle).
In short people have to choose bewtten a system many have flaged as "shady" (C&B) or a system that sucks (crysta). Thats why people are pissed (and it doesn't help that people in the jp region are still allowed to pay the old way... people are PO'ed about that as well). Because I don't trust third parties with my credit card information, and now I'm suddenly being charged a fee completely unrelated to the game just to pay my bill for the game. I don't care if it's one cent or twenty bucks; that's unacceptable.
What really bothers me is that the Japanese playerbase is still able to do their billing directly through Square Enix, while everyone else is inexplicably thrust into the hands of unknown third parties, or PayPal (which I will never do business with again). Edit: Even to use Crysta, you need a PayPal account or a ClickandBuy account.

Bad reputation?
I'm googling it and the only bad reputation I see is a very poorly written post about it. It's about the fact that they went from a good system that was in place for years to one that sucks *** and requires us to pay more than we did before, yet the JP still have the same option as before. Also, you say it has nothing to do with the cost yet you still *** about paying more. FFXI people don't like change. That's all it is. They complain about any change made in this game and then they forget about it 3 months later.

Hmm... I've heard a lot about C&B bad reputation, I have a few friends that got charged twice already for (apparently) no reason. Could I just go with the crysta method and buy with paypal? I'm guessing it's the safest way... what a mess :(

On the JP note, if you have 3-D Secure in NA/EU can you use that option? First time I tried to use it, our bank froze the credit card because they thought it was a fraud.

I tried to sign up to Click&Buy and my bank has them on their blocking list because they are based off of England as Mariane said because of fraud. So it's either calling my bank every month to have a payment go through or use my old paypal account and pay with Crystas.

Are you guys sure that charge wasn't for C&B's credit card verification?
It's not for the verification, its a "INTERNATIONAL POS FEE" thats the name on the charge, POS must stand for piece of ***.

It's a 8 year old game that is lossing customers as is so increasing the cost to play isn't a good idea regradless of how much that cost is. Even more important with so many F2P MMORPG games out now. 4. Why was the change needed. The public doesn't understand the need for the change because as far as we thought it was working well for 8 years. (back end cost people don't think about.) If there is really an issue with back end cost why do Japanese still get Direct payment. 5. I would guess that about 10% of the FFXI base hasn't been happy with FFXI over all for a few years but have friend or things they want to get done. Maybe even just haven't found an MMORPG to replace ffxi so this is just the final straw that broke the camel's back. Even more so because SE made such a big deal about switching the secure credit cards. If they switch to ClickandBuy at that point I don't think it would have been such a big deal. 6. 2. You do know that people post BS on BBB.org right? I know so many people who posted on there about Sega because they didn't put updates much for PSU. BBB is filled with BS from stuck up customers who want things their way. 3. Less people means they have to charge more to make profits. Makes sense and it's a good idea from a business perspective. 4. I've seen many complaints throughout the months about POL's payment method. Something about waiting a few days to repay a failed payment. 5. Nobody's ever happy anymore. 6. I know many people who's paypal accounts were hacked constantly.
