Personally, I just find it better to use the elemental grips because, as stated, they're helpful for more than just my BLU.
You seemed to only grasp the fact that they're a major inventory-

They're garbage, for other jobs use skill+ grips if you're so desperate for m.acc, and for blu use stat grips. What I would like to know however is why you are so concerned with using m.acc over potency. What mobs are you casting on that you're resisting so frequently that m.acc grips are worth the -8 inventory detriment.

It's not the matter of grips/spell, it's more the matter of damage vs acc in the sense of the spells :x

I know I'm not a staff wielder blu, but for nukes, blu skill + on MOST spells(looking at you terrible macc needles.) is way more then enough macc to land the spell. If you're having trouble with resists you'd need more int or mnd depending on the spell... Kind of like blm

For blue magic acc(unless bg mathers have found something different that i've yet to find reading through all 400+ pages...) it's Skill > Prim. Mod > Macc

I have a few skill plus grips. As I stated I primarily use them for the MP *AND* mACC. I didn't say at all that I am using them primarily for the mACC. I take it everyone here never sees resists on NMs? Or are we not looking? Also, when soloing on magical BLU resists can become 'interesting'.

The MP is moot to begin with, and you can resist on anything. I can go out and nuke a level 0 mob and still get a resist.

If I want macc I use gear that's already in inventory instead of marginal and otherwise unused items. I already explained why the MP+ is of minimal value.

Holy Cow! of all the things I submitted as to why I love staff on BLU the grips I stated are controversial? It is not like a wrote a guide stating: This is how to do magical BLU. I simply listed what I am doing. I am not suggesting you do anything. But what I am doing is fun and works well for *MY* play-style.

Sidenote: Resists are not the only reason I seek mACC. Ever notice the enfeeble most spells have along with the DMG? I seek out more than just the DMG depending on the situation.

Please start a thread on which grips a magical BLU should use. You would definitely have one reader - me!

Every staff you listed has physical spell buffs or less MP. So I'm not even sure what you're talking about.

Aaaaaaaand now we have the "my playstyle" card. Awesome.

I explained what's better and why. If you're not willing to respond without rationalizing, exaggerating, or getting defensive, we have nothing further to discuss.

EDIT: Do you even know what the mods are for the spells you're casting?

Are you now stating that we should all use the same equipment and play exactly the same way despite event, area, racial and skill lvl differences?

Hell, this might as well be a SAM thread now. Yeah, I went there.

I hate to break this to you, but FFXI runs on code which is essentially a series of equations. It's really not that hard to show that one way is better than another using these equations, and yes, there is an ideal setup and playstyle for any specific situation.

Don't come to these forums if you don't want to learn the BEST way to play your job. No one says you aren't allowed to play your "special" way, but if you're going to come in and intrude on the subject at hand, don't impose your lesser playstyle on someone who's trying to get good advice.

This is why people hate going into Blu threads or even talking to other blus.

there are blus that get too defensive over a 'play-style' of their choosing that others are saying 'hey it might work, but this gear is better then that and you might find it works better.'

Race in FFXI is a stupid card to pull expecially now.
Yes we all dont play the same event at the same time, but we find ways that work for that specific instance and try to help each other out.
Skill level difference? You should pretty much have the same skill level as the rest of the blus... and if you dont... you need to start working on trying to cap your skills reather then trying to be a 'Nuke-blu.'

"Bugard leather strap +1"
(Grips) All Races
MP +10 INT +1 MND +1 CHR +1
Lv. 60 All Jobs

I have and use this.

"Gatta Strap +1"

STR +3, DEX +3

wtf - this is physical spell grip and no MP.

"Spear strap"
(Grips) All Races
HP +10 MP +10 DEX +3
Lv. 65 All Jobs

-See above and elemental grips still beat this in MP

"MND+3 grip"

what would this be if everyone is so well versed on it?

You do realize some of your magical spells have DEX as a modifier, don't you?

I specifically mentioned Charged Whisker for a reason. Guess what base stat affects its damage aside from INT?

Mind Blast, which I also mentioned earlier.

Ok. you're not understanding

You're an elvaan. You get the second lowest MP score.
way to fix this: 8/8 Mp merits if you're so inclined to worry about your mp.

Dex +3 straps offer +3 dex for charged whisker which is a mod boost of 50% increasing your overall dex would increase your overall damage by 50% of your total dex.

Mnd+3 grip is Reign grip if i'm not mistaken, and it's the 'best' grip so far that i've found for Eyes on me damage wise.

You're wrong about race. And I'm not pulling a 'card'. Tell me right now a Galka mage doesn't worry about MP more than a taru IN OR OUT OF ABYSSEA.
But obviously you aren't reading what I wrote in it's entirety because I have not told anyone to play *my way*. I am telling people what works for me. What works for you? Share!

so everyone in this Staff Wielding Blu's thread <Please listen.>

Always use Charged Whisker. Ok?
Do not worry that it's some NM that may resist or absorb thunder. Make sure to use Charged Whisker.

Race is a HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE way of saying 'Hey my race sucks! I should have been a hume!' Guess what. SE found ways around the 'race' card. They're called merits.

As a taru, I worry about my MP just as much as the next blu. I have problems with MP. Yes i have a base of 700 MP, that doesn't mean I still have the unlimited Mp that everyone thinks.

I've seen galka white mages with the same gear as I do a hell of a good job. Galka are in no shape or form a 'bad idea for a mage'. That's like saying elvaan shouldn't be a black mage or a blu. Tarutaru should never be warriors. Mithra should be nothing but thieves. Humes rule all!
