this is about the dumbest thing SE could do.

it will cause nothing but problems

edit: not to mention turn away all the players that don't have web browser access (more than you would think).

SE is apparently trying to kill their remaining customer base.

This post is melodramatic.

But I do see it's point.

perhaps, but the point is the point.

Hell I've had to update CC info on ps2 a few times just because the crap wouldn't work on the pc.

I have a question about this.
I haven't made a Square Enix account yet. This, because I was worried about the region-tied lock.
I have an NA FFXI game, but I live in Europe. As far as I know the SE account requires you to register your region but I am afraid that the 2 will conflict, as I remember reading somewhere that they cannot be different?
Can anyone with an SE account confirm this? Or does anyone know more about it?

Seriously? Does your bank not use 3-D Secure with their Mastercards/Visas or something?

Lol .....not too worried because if SE wants their fees they will make it work...I'm sure that they dont want to lose subscribers, well any more subscribers. Players have left for lesser reasons such as level increases and changes in the game and even server mergers.

Most countries use 3-D secure on their credit cards, and in fact Mastercard and Visa are not responsible for fraudulent transactions if the company does not use 3-D secure.

If the company does use 3-D secure and a transaction is fraudulent, they take accountability for it.

The possibility of losing a few customers by saving themselves from fraudulent transactions is a smart business choice.

Also, I would like to point out that currently no other games use Playonline other than FFXI. That alone is reason enough for them to abandon Playonline.

Just a thought... will this effect dual boxing at all since we will be loging in via SE accounts not PoL right?

Shouldn't. I dual-box on FFXI with a SE ID and never had a problem.

At worst, it'll act like when you have two FFXIV accounts -- it asks you which you want to use ("Final Fantasy XIV 1" or "Final Fantasy XIV 2") and then loads your characters accordingly. I have no problems dual-boxing in FFXIV, either.

I successfully transferred my SE account. EU residence + NA game, transfer went perfectly. Just no more being charged in Dollars. =( The game gets more expensive, you have to pay in Euros now.
