i don't know anyone who is that *** crazy to disown or beat someone over what they believe in. the only time i see that ***is when i see inbred rednecks shooting abortion doctors, or crazy muslims decapitating *** over some ***that doesn't make sense to me.

Tell me, can an Atheist become President then? Why is it that Religion is such a big deal during elections? How many Atheists do you see running the US?

Large amounts of people fear the concept of an Atheist because it is ingrained upon them to fear God, fear Hell and that anything against God must be the work of Satan. The Atheist can say that he/she doesn't believe in God or Satan or any other supernatural being yet many people will default to this poor hapless person being a pawn in Satan's plot to damn us all.

It's something that just continuously gets passed down from generation to generation.

The second you start to question the Religion, many people seize up and often become violent or resort to stereotypes to avoid dealing with the situation. It is why many Atheists have remained underground, avoiding this sticky situation by coursing through life as a pseudo-Christian.

Im not going to say every religious person is prone to violence but enough are out there to make things worth noting. They may not literally try to kill you but some people will attempt to undermine you in more subtle ways.

Some people can very liberal about their religious beliefs and I respect that, but too many are still around that would resort to violence for their God because often they are commanded to.

But two wrights made a plane!

Anyways, my point that "To get a respectful response, one should respect the other posters enough to put some thought into their post" is lost on many, or simply a concept several disagree with.

If you don't want to debate with children, why is it that you are only debating with people you see as "children".
If they are children, ignore what they have to say and talk to someone you don't consider to be a child?
Or do you consider anyone that doesn't see things the same exact way you do as a child?
this is a bit vague because you use the term "child" inappropriately.
You have a bigger language, quit defaulting to the child euphemism.

It's a vague term and has quite a loose meaning if you get down to the particulars, but with this we aren't.
discuss like a rational adult or everyone is going to think you are an irrational child. this has nothing to do with what you believe or what they believe.
Either use reason or insults, entertaining both may very well make you look like a fool for a time if you aren't careful.

The grammer was a side note, his concepts and argument itself was structured just as poorly.

He equated evolution to creationism, because they're both "words".

You can't debate with that level of intellect.

I guess my experiences in life have lead me to see the world much differently. I've met and worked alongside many people of all different faiths and lack of faith. No one ever had an issue with anyone being an atheist ever... I'm not saying there isn't any prejudice, but it is not everywhere. I've lived and worked/gone to school in three different states in the US and have never witnessed an incident where people have been persecuted for being an atheist. Maybe I got lucky? All I know is that I would say there are a great deal of people with faith that don't mind and are not scared of people that are atheists. The people that are really have some issues.

for a guy who was in the army for 10 yrs you get pretty easily upset dude. i think you're lying about your whole life lol. your a scientist with 180 IQ, then now you're an army man for 10 yrs, you say you don't get upset but you're making an example of me asking questions on an internet forum the same as me punching you in the bar? wtf lol?

the smartest thing to do in a bar fight is run away, no matter how many friends you have all it takes is one mofo with a gun to splatter all you army scientists all over the wall. i don't think you've been in many fights, because it's never fair and it's never hand to hand combat. you go with friends and they got 20 muthafuckas you didn't even know was with them outside with all kinds of ***.

I watched a pretty interesting video on evolution today on Ted.com
Was all about neo-evolution, or man-made evolution.
pretty interesting stuff, though much of it is quite drafty when you get down to it, but it is a pretty hard time estimating what's going to happen so I let that slide a bit lol.

I do, just earlier in the day. I work 8-4 now, I try not to post very much when I'm off work, but I'm idling before watching a movie atm.

I got my undergrad while I was in the army, and my graduate degree when I tranfered to the reserves. I got out of the service last year when I got back from afghanistan.

I've worked at Los Alamos National Lab as a physicist, and currently work for a defense contractor.

I agree, the smartest thing to do in any fight is walk away. I disagree that it's the "right" thing to do however. I believe in standing up for yourself.

Stop pretending you're reality is the real one and we're all just here living this unrealistic dream. You walked into a religious debate thread and told people to get Jesus. You then stated you didn't understand the evidential differences between evolution and creationism "because they're both words".

Give people the respect and dignity you yourself would want to recieve in your own beliefs. As long as no ones beliefs infringe on the rights or wellbeing of another...Then who cares.

Well I guess the ones who want to sit behind the curtain of anonymity on the internet do; because in the real world folks to treat people with such lack of respect as many have began to treat one another on these forums would likely lead to a bloody mouth mate.

I watched the Bill Maher documentary Religulous, I do have to say he is pretty much the man.
He went to this trucker church and started asking hard questions about chirstianity and made it through the whole thing only pissing off one trucker(the dude that got pissed was a doucher). I mean sure it could have been scripted for all I know, but making peace rather than war with differing beliefs seems a lot more palatable to me, that isn't the same as condoning or approving just to be non-confrontational. I just don't want to get caught up in the whole atheist schtick where I speak for more than I actually know. Now that doesn't mean I won't do that still, but it's not like I'm pegged for obstinate dissent with my peers. I believe a lot has to do with using your intuition. Which isn't faith, for this intuition is what one would call "reading the room".
after reading the room, you then can systematically test the boundaries and find where the outrage lies and what you can say to bypass the said outrage. You aren't going to convince anyone of what you say if they are pissed at you.

I commend you on your ability to tolerate and respect people of different belief systems but in America when conversations like "Is Obama a Christian?" dominate the airwaves, certain groups want to ban abortions solely based on religious belief or teach creationism in schools my statement of some individuals being deathly afraid of Atheism is perfectly sound.

This is mainly why Atheists often get riled up. Many religious institutions want to force their beliefs upon the masses and they will not stop until they achieve this goal.

right thing to do is based on what you think is right. so that part is up to the individual. if you don't want to get hurt running is the right thing to do. if you want to pretend to be rambo, then fighting is the right thing to do.

i think you need to take your own advice, you talk about fighting like there's only one outcome, you whoopin that ***, i'm just pointing out that it's not, and you have a fairly high chance of being maimed or killed.

I won't argue that there are groups of people out there that are ignorant and try to shove their beliefs down other peoples throats. Trust me I know, my Uncle has made some comments that almost sent me over the edge. What I'm saying is that there are many people out there who embrace their faith and also embrace the acceptance of others no matter what they believe or don't believe.

There are some crazy *** people out there and yes some of it is driven by their "faith" but to lump everyone into that section is ignorant yourself. There are also people who have faith and very much disagree with the actions of these groups of people.
