you can buy fish to turn in, but can you not buy relic currency too? Too many people getting butt-hurt over something as trivial as achievement points ...

The problem with Achievements is that a given item or title's value is completely fluid as time goes on. Each patch can make things harder or easier to get, and would require someone essentially full time to constantly tweak and subjectively manage the Achievement system to match it. And
Given none of the site admins still even play FFXI, this is a tall order, and users have never agreed on even the simplest of questions regarding whether X item or Y title should count for what. We have attempted to jump all over past user feedback on this one and have gotten burned pretty badly, especially around Ebisu. We have to draw the line somewhere and be happy with an imperfect system. We have to say "Alright, this is it for a bit, we may revisit it later" and work on other parts of the site with the (very limited) part-time opportunities we have, especially if it's just one component of a much bigger picture. Hence we called a break awhile back and said we're just gunna run with the (admittedly imperfect) system we have until there's a major reason to change it.

also playing FFXI again D: I hate banning people. It makes me feel awful. Whatever thrill comes from wielding the banhammer wore off 14 years ago as a GM, and I really prefer not to do it.
