Do you use a controller? or special keyboard/mouse that use drivers?
To be honest since there's apparently a bug in steam with 7x64 etc, that's probably causing the conflict, if patching it doesn't help I'd say try to get a hold of standalone XI (you can use the same login etc) and use the playonline from the website, and the game+expansions from where you get them, and give it a whirl. Run CCleaner to clean up your registry while you're at it though.
At the moment there's too many factors. I use a controller the FFXIV one
I would first look into that steam patch (or try to get away from steam) and see if that fixes it, then after that you're probably down to trial and error on some drivers.
The controller could cause it, you ever have any problems out of it?

Cerberus.Eugene said: You're right, the KB article actually says that other issues can cause that code. That doesn't change the fact that your blanket statement about error codes is wrong. It may not lead to a solution, but on the other hand it may.
The reason that its relevant is that a good deal of computer troubleshooting is trial and error. If you get a consistent error code it can lead to an answer. It might not, but in my case the error code was the key. I did plenty of memtests prior to looking up the error code, which is your suggestion, which got me nowhere. You discrediting a potential solution is unhelpful. There's a good chance the error code won't get him anywhere, but if you discredit error codes when it could help solve his issue (or anyone's issue for that matter) then you just put him further from the answer. Especially when its not too time consuming of a process to google it.
Hedge and condescend all you want, it doesn't change the fact that you were wrong in making a blanket statement.
Indeed, the entire point of looking at the error was to look for a possible solution, and is typically a better chance at randomly guessing what it wrong.
There's also the chance it could lead you astray in diagnosing the problem, but rare.

So you went from being all "give me the BSOD code... give me the BSOD code... give me the BSOD code"
to...
"oh theres only a rare chance to diagnose it."
Notice how i first and foremost suggested speedfan for checking temperatures. Many if not most graphic related crashes start with overheating. Will be EITHER in the form of a BSOD or aritfacts and freeze.
Then i had him stress test the processor to see if any cores went bad which could have coincided with any crash as well.
Notice now i had him try to do a memtest and then asked about drivers.
If you'd like any further help from me just PM me, I've made my point 10x's over.

I lol'd at the people who think the BSOD in windows (version anything) actually tells you anything important.
Don't let internet know-it-alls google your solution, because it's most likely going to be out in left field, or cause more damage than need be.
Unfortunately, Windows doesn't always provide useful error reporting/codes. Your only recourse is to try and work backwards til your computer is stable again.
For example: Did you install something new? plug in a new USB device? open an email from Nigeria? are your fans actually turning? is there a corrosive acid eating through your CPU heatsink?
Those would be the first areas I'd check. Also, Troubleshooting issues yourself is the quickest and fastest way to prevent this from occurring in the future, and giving yourself a legup on the inevitable robot vs human war.
EDIT: Reading over this pissing contest of a computer help thread, I'd guess that your hardware is A-ok. (Your temps are well within reason) It 'looks' like your problem 'may be' software related. You said you have the Steam copy of FFXI installed? I would guess there may be an issue there. I've heard rumblings of incompatibilities with Win7 x64. If you have a friend with a CD copy of FFXI, try ghosting your current install over to a USB or HDD drive and uninstalling, then reinstalling from a retail (or torrented) CD. Your current PlayOnline ID and everything will continue to work for any version you install, be it PC/360/PS2/Retail/DigitalDownload/Steam/etc.
It's going to take ages to update and test, but that's a last resort. Only do this if you are having no issues with anything else. (Just FFXI).

I honestly forgot to ask, and I didn't see it anywhere in the thread... Did FFXI ever work properly? I.e. not BSoD on your current PC? If it never worked properly at all, your issue is going to be a bit harder to pinpoint. If it just recently started doing this though, try and think back as to what changed around the time your issues began.

they confirmed that the issue is software...
a combination of the kernel file and a 1e error leads me to believe that there's a compatibility issue either with the software or the drivers, considering the known issues with what he's running, most likely the former.
where the *** did you get the idea that his crash was a video crash? I mean *** seriously? where? he has one program that's crashing.
Go back to school and retake your A+ if you even have it.

Whenever I play FFXI sometimes it'll just crash my whole computer with a blue screen of death it doesn't happen with FFXIV, Forsaken World, and normal videos and things. When it crashes tells me to update my video card and bios everything on my computer is updated so... what can i do?
