I also uninstalled/reinstalled my video card
and i updated it again
searched for a ffxi hotfix nothing for my video card "ati radeon hd 5500 series"
then after i ran that bluescreenview found out that every crash has something to do with "ntoskrnl.exe"
so i googled it attempting there fix so hopefully it'll work and i'll update if i have another blue screen

Probably because it has to handle the cpu driver differently. "non-essential" hardware(yes, gpu is technically non-essential in this case) will just restart the driver. If its your i7, it still needs to do a crash dump and all the wonderful bs that goes with it.

Are you sure it only happens during ffxi? I had a blue screen error that I originally thought was attributed to a driver clash between ffxi and some hardware.

Eventually i stopped playing ffxi and it happened during other games as well.

I finally posted my error-code on microsoft technet and they were able to tell me what the code meant within 48hours. It turned out there was a clash between my os and my network drivers that needed a hotfix to windows 7.

In any event, if you don't get your answer here you can try posting atMicrosoft technet forums with the error code you get when your system recovers.

Cheers and best of luck.

PS ntoskrnl.exe is a windows service that handles a lot of the system services that deal with hardware, and is an essential part of the OS.

did you get the error codes in the diagnostic you ran?

or write them down the next time it happens, they're pretty much the key, instead of randomly checking drivers.

I really wouldn't expect you to know given past threads... but if you seriously think a blue screen of death code is a "100% oh my god i know what the problem is" solution you are SICKENINGLY mistaken and should probably wake up.

To the OP, I would recommend downloading speedfan and checking internal temperatures of the computer to make sure everything is straight there.

Next how many cores does your processor have? If 2 or more i recommend also downloading a program called prime95 which will allow you to stress test each core... if any BSOD occurs during that test its a processor malfunction.

Those are two major tests i would try running/checking before proceeding on to less intrusive tests.

Overheating is a silent killer that many people overlook. Recently my wifes graphic card went out for that VERY reason actually.

Just glancing over the thread again, i bet your graphic card overheated. Tons of signs point to the graphic card obviously. Just check those temperatures... any fire icons on the C's is obviously a bad thing. You want blue arrows or green check marks across the board.

Sure in the sense I don't know exactly what the problem is, it is guessing.

But again, there's a difference between firing off random ideas and making educated and calculated diagnoses based off of previous experience, not to mention deductive logic.

I've been in this for a long time, I've had the experience. You can type in those characters and guess what, find nothing. If you diagnose computer problems solely by what it's saying, you're already doing it wrong, you use those as confirmations, namely after you exhaust all fixes you can on the software side and resort to replacing hardware.

Given pasts threads means nothing as you've proven you don't know what you're talking about on several occasions, as for the error code when it's the same error code multiple times it's obviously what's wrong...

It's still a better start than deductive reasoning, when you have the opportunity to find the answer instead of guessing.

I actually got a blue screen like that last night, which is like, a first for this PC, or at least it was so long ago that I don't remember it. The thing I can't remember is if I had FFXI open or closed, I think it wasn't open, but I'm not entirely sure.

CCC says that my temp. is 54C and that my card's fan speed is 15%

I really don't think it's my video card to be honest because it's only 3 months old

I'll tell you again since you didn't understand the first time or seem to want to argue with me. And yeah, go on and talk that ***like i don't know what i'm talking about considering this has been my job field, college major, and personal hobby along side graphic design.

I'll even bold this for you:

The code given on the blue screen of death even if it repeats as the same code every time isn't going to *** give you a definitive answer as to whats wrong with your *** computer

Please kindly shut the *** up.

ANYWAYS.

Those temperatures look fine, and if prime95 is completing tests at all then you are good to go on complete hardware failure involving the processor or graphic card. (Which is amazing news for you). Did you already try uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers?

FFXIV doesn't overheat the GPU, but FFXI does? LMAO! What are you guys smoking?

Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers only works if multiple programs are crashing not just one specific program.

I don't much about windows 7 and FFXI compatibility so I'm not sure, but I can hypothesize the problem lies within the combination of those two.

Especially since all other games are working fine!

Sometimes that messes with things, you shouldnt need to play it in compatibility mode.
