Having been at Clothcraft 90 since 2007.12.06, I can say I've probably gotten more raw gil from reraise earrings and some solid synths I went through while leveling subs. Above 90, some of the following changes a lot.
Some things I think Clothcraft really has going for it:
Well spaced [in terms of skill ranges] and numerous material synths
Compared to Smithing/Goldsmithing, Cloth has a lot more material synths that tend to be profitable, rather than a high number of finished product synths. Before 90, I don't think I used 10 synths that weren't materials or finished products, and half of those were still at least break even synths.
Fewer skillup items completely devalued by people shooting for an HQ
Cloth doesn't have the +1 material synths like Goldsmithing does, so you're a lot less likely to deplete your bank account through loss synths.
The profit is sometimes small compared to other crafts, but it's consistent
The thread and cloth synths are proven winners, particularly if you have the space to sell singles rather than full stacks.
