Is anyone a forensics analyst for some kind of firm/police dept/lab?
I'm kind of curious on what that type of profession would do to find information about a suspect on a computer. (mainly just lost atm cuz professor gave me a poorly written email about some forensics file search program as a topic :| )
i didn't even apply since i'm a legacy member and was told i didn't have to lol.
Oddly enough, I applied via the link from one of the FFXIV threads (on the beta) and I submitted it but got no reply yet (other than the automated "your application has been received" email.) The only part that even allowed for me to mention I was legacy-status was a survey question asking how long I played FFXIV (I replied "until the end of 1.xx".)
It didn't ask me to link from my account or sign in from my legacy SE account at all. ;_; So that's why I was curious. :/
But I do think legacy players will get priority on certain parts...let me dig up the link. /dig-dig

I don't know but that is an interesting question.
I mean from this website alone, with you ISP IP, they can track you down pretty easy.
Yeah they know how to make a Graphic User interface interface using visual basic to track the killers IP's
This is literally his email word for word.

Celestial Body location project seems to be small for a semester long project.
I recommend your team creates a new proposal.
Your team can develop a system for digital forensics if you want.
The system helps to find some evidence that a suspect may leave on his/her computer used for a crime.
For example for a use case, suppose that Bob uploaded a file (Alex’s privacy related) to a website.
Alex suited Bob, so police took Bob’s computer to investigate.
But Bob removed all traces he uploaded the file to the website on his computer.
The digital forensics system may provide a use case to find the evidence.
This is one example use case.
You team can develop more use cases for helping police’s investigation.
Please let me know and we can discuss more if you are interested.
Thanks,
(i left the names out of the individuals/professor)
but yeah anywho my mind is blown atm.
He rejected our game proposal, budgeting software proposal , and database system proposa and our celestial body tracker/locater thing too :|
I got a hold of the admin for ffxi-atlas.com. She was having some trouble on server admin side of things. I offered to help and she accepted. The server had some intrusion problems in the past so I did a few things to clean/detect any nefarious code/applications. There was also server misconfigurations that caused problems while trying to do routine maintenance to the sever.
I can't guarantee that it is 100% free of malicious code but I think it's much better off. If you notice any security related issues, you can report them to me.
Some things I did:
Scanned for rootkits.
Scanned for suspect php files.
Scanned for suspect iframes, found a few and removed.
Installed a security module for php.
Black listed some of php's infamous functions.
System-wide update.
PHP update.
Installed a different webserver.
Set up firewall rules. (nothing was set before)
BTW some pages might not work either because of depreciated php api or lack of or broken http rewrite rules.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
