1. Mag: no it's not.

2. Calculus isn't math, it's hell spawn on paper.

oh and:

3. *** memorization of formulas, it distracts from learning how to actually use them.

na, linear algebra is easy, I'd rather sit for 8 semesters of that than take 1 class of calculus.

*** limits, and proofs...

/comfort

I am looking for alternatives to see if I can find a school that will transfer the calc credits from a place that teaches it online via mathlab.

I'll give it a whirl then, otherwise I'll just remain calculusless

lets see... in my current math career i've done...
calc 1,2,3 linera algebra and statistics for engineers.

I need to take something like differential equations or calc 4 to get my minor... ; ;

to be fair: you have more patience than me, or better teachers, idk.

I'm kind of a bad student... If I don't grasp something easily, I don't make much of an effort in learning it anymore, getting lazy.

You could throw everyone a loop and take a Shakespeare or Early English Lit class!

Algebra was cake. So was Trigonometry. And Geometry

Calculus was hell, though. Never again.

Trigonometry was probably the most real life relevant math class you could take in High School IMO.

I'm a bad student too. Its hard for me to remember how to do certain problems. I know what needs to be done and what i should be doing for each step. I just get caught up in the moment and forget how to actually write it out on to the paper.
Took me like 2 attempts for calc 2, and 3 attempts at calc 3 to pass them. Instructors who can barely speak English shouldn't be allowed to teach at a college when tuition rates are stupidly high

Hey Mag, hell freezing over by you?

Didn't get any of the storm, some rain but that was it.
Suppose to be in the high 40's tomorrow.

After playing around with GIMP and doing so many tutorials, I need a smoke, too bad I quit cigs a few weeks ago. :/
Well, I doubt Phoenix will ever get to the freezing point, but it's been raining off and on for the past four days, and for a place that brags sunshine 350 days out of the year, that's something. I'm used to stuff like this, but I dare not drive too far from where I live, right now. Phoenicians drive like maniacs if they get more than an inch of rain, so I'm not taking any chances.

I do yearn for some snow, though. I can't wait to move back north to someplace that doesn't house hell-like temperatures.

I thought you mentioned Minn. or Wisconsin before. LOL. My bad thought you were up in the midwest.
I'm originally from Wisconsin, but I moved here about 7 years ago. That one's a long story, but I do plan on going back there again, some day. Wisconsin holds my heart; Arizona simply traps my body.

Dat sweet bed time. Tomorrow muster and no work cause the library is closed. Gotta love Grad Hold.

As for Math, there's no topping the teacher I had in high school. When I took pre-calc and Calc in college... ***was steep. The old 76 year old professor guy would get on a soap box about politics, so we had to get together and teach/reteach ourselves. I did not pass his course.

ok how bout with fractions :/

-5/8u + 1/3 = -1/8u + 3/2
add "1/8u" to both sides, then subtract 1/3 from both sides, then I multiplied both sides by 3, (9-2) then divide both sides by -3.

the answer is u= -7/3

don't let fractions frighten you.
It's -3/7.

ok I'll bite, can you show it?
numerators and denominators are treated like they're in parentheses. For it to be -7/3, it the formula would be:
(-5/8)u + 1/3 = (-1/8)u + 3/2
which it's not.

I'm going to assume that she meant 1/8 * u, as if she meant 1/(8u) I"m sure she would have typed it that way.

so, yeah: it is.

-5/8u + 1/3 = -1/8u + 3/2

is exactly what the program has... the answer is correct of -7/3.

-5/8u + 1/8 = -4/8

3/2 - 1/3 = 9/6 - 2/6 = 7/6

-4/8u = 7/6

-4/8/-4/8 cancels

7/6/-4/8 = 7/6*-8/4 = -56/24 = -7/3

I mean I'll hand it that it should be written in parenthesis, however as I know that typically when one writes it that way as to what they mean, I assumed the default: and was accurate.
