My C drive has a total of...

119,926,681,600 bytes, 111 GB

I use a 700 GB external to hold everything extra while the important files are on my main.

When I finally get a real PC I'm probably going to do a SSD for my main to keep my OS running fast while I have some TB drives to store files.

Think that's okay anyways.

My PC has a 1.5 TB main drive and a 2TB secondary drive. I have about 900gigs free atm.
Is your main SSD or normal? Is there a significant difference? I see people praise them all the time.

I meant when you're dealing with large amounts of space like 1-2 TB. I thought the performance went down the larger the drive became for SSD.

I guess you can say that for normal as well though if the above is true, since it takes longer to get to the position of the disk. I just never seen SSD in action so I don't know really.

My buddy has an SSD and the difference between our startup times is 10 seconds. When it comes to most applications we're pretty close in speed. I don't have an SSD because I didn't want to spend 400$ on a large one last year. They've dropped in price since.

He does SSD for windows, HD #1 for games HD #2 for storage while I do HD#1 for windows and games, HD#2 for storage.

Majority of the time a larger SSD won't run any slower than a smaller one in everyday life. The only disadvantage to a larger SSD is cost

For a small scale idea (mine aren't particularly big, but they don't get a ton bigger)

My 1TB HDD runs at around 130~140MBPS, my smaller 64GB SSD runs at 300MBPS, and my larger 256GB SSD also runs at 300. Might see some differences with the high end Patriot SSDs that get stupid fast speeds (500MBPS~ in RAID-0) but I haven't got much experience with those.

A 1-2TB SSD would cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $5,000~10,000, and due to the nature of SSD technology you'll lose some speed, but you're still looking at a large difference between a top end HDD and a low end SSD in terms of speed

Apparently I misremembered, actual numbers are higher than what I said. :|

Worth noting that both of the SSDs are beyond recommended capacity, so minor slowdowns may be in effect, but it's minuscule if so, the 64GB's write speed is so much lower because it's plugged into my Marvell controller rather than my Intel one. In any case this should illustrate the difference between SSD and HDD for you.

Luckily it's pretty affordable to do so these days. This set of drives cost me only about $330 in total (may seem like a lot for storage devices but in comparison to what it would have cost early last year or so...).

I would upgrade just the drive but I really don't want to put any more money into this thing.

I'll just save it towards a real PC

I'm both regretful and happy with what I spent on my system. :\ Luckily it'll last me many years now so it's a worthy investemtn. Idk what I spent in total since it's been over a few months that I've been buying part by part, but probably over 1.5k or so. Have considered grabbing a 3770k or something but it's such a minor improvement over what I have. :|

If anyone's interested, which no one likely is

Could do with upgrading my cooler to an H100 or a full water loop but I cba, happy with my CPU's OC as it is and it'd be a waste to go over 4.8 anyway. I got sort of lucky with my chip though, 1.35v and it holds stable for 16~ hrs of P95 with very nice temperatures even with my gimpy cooling solution.

Actually recently found some nice prebuilts that I'd actually consider recommending to people who don't want to build a PC themselves...

http://pc.ncix.com/ncixpc_new/ncixpc.cfm?uuid=4D1CBC00-BE25-4D1B-8857FB62135025DC-4832658#PCTop

Can stick all of the best stuff in this thing and still come in at around $1500 and easily customize it to fit a prize range.

Ok, now it is officially nighttime.

Btw, before I go, if anyone can send me a PM to the "must have" mods on Skyrim for best visual performance, at a low framerate cost, that would be great. I don't have the most top notch PC, only sitting on AMD A6-3650 APU Radeon/2.60GHz, and 8GB(RAM), but I do plan on upgrading in the future~!

Not too fluent in PC language, so apology ahead of time.

But yeah, bedtime, ta~ta~
