Love it when UK people claim they have no accent lol
Well, they don't really. I may be wrong, but I believe English as we know it originated from England, so we would be the ones speaking it with an accent.
English is a West Germanic language that originated from the Anglo-Frisian dialects brought to Britain by Germanic invaders and/or settlers from various parts of what is now northwest Germany and the Netherlands. Initially, Old English was a diverse group of dialects, reflecting the varied origins of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of Britain. One of these dialects, Late West Saxon, eventually became predominant.
It looks like it did to me. Germanic invaders went to Britain and brought a certain Anglo-Frisian dialect with them, which eventually evolved into English within the borders of Britain, as far as I can tell.
To be entirely fair, I haven't checked Kali's source, but seems legit :p
Incidentally, Germans are really practiced at this invasion thing.
I remember we were once listening to a tape in class, something about poetry I think, anyway when the girl said with a perfect english accent "William Wordsworth" I almost had an orgasm. That name just sounds so awesome with that accent.

The source is the Wiki page for origin of the english language... I guess it really depends on how you look at it...
I just love how the "r" sounds in english. It makes me melt inside.
This isn't the first time I've heard this... but I just don't get it...
Bugs the hell out of me because the last person I know that said it always used to emphasise the r's in my name. >:I
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
