Some PS1 games are pretty rare and go for a great deal of money... $20 is on the cheap side...

20$ for a ps1 game is cheap?! Are you guys from the past? They want upwards of $200 for some... mainly because they are somewhat rare and no longer manufactured...

I remember my PS1 Valkyrie Profile being worth a couple hundred bucks a few years ago.
>.> Since the PSP rerelease it has dropped significantly... I'd be doing good to get ~$70 for it now. My Lunar and Lunar 2 box sets have gone down considerably as well. Makes me kinda sad.

and no longer manufactured... I know many pirate crafters... <.< Some of us don't like to pirate... we actually pay for the products we use...
Also, age doesn't necassarily mean the price goes down... in some cases it actually raises the price...

Not to mention the whole "supporting the manufacturer" bit. I wouldn't fault anyone pirating that couldn't afford the product, but if you're just doing it to pinch pennies when you're financially able you're kind of a ***. (Not PS1 specific, just a general sentiment.)
Mod chips always seemed sketchy to me, too. The sites that supply them are all so poorly done.

My point was that no game is impossible to find, wasn't making a case in favour of piracy, clam down.
And no, ps1 games to me don't deserve a high price.

To me... that's life... might sound harsh but true... I mean I can't afford certain things I might want but I don't go about taking things that aren't mine just because I can't afford them... While I can certainly understand that viewpoint, I disagree. The companies realize how high piracy rates are at the moment. Most business decisions are made with that in mind.
-Can afford product and like the developer? Buy it.
-Can barely afford product and like the developer? Pirate it and remember that the developer footed the bill for that game you're playing for free. Buy it when you have some spare money.
-Friend tells you to check out a game that you would never spend money on but feel like you might enjoy? I see this as a grey area. If you take it as a given that you would never pay money for that game, the company has actually benefitted from you pirating it. Their game gains a fan, and you might have incentive to buy the next generation of it. A good personal example would be portal, I pirated the first one a few years after it was released at a friends suggestion, would never have bothered otherwise. Bought 2 the day of release, and am happy with the purchase.
My issue lies with people who have enough recreation money to buy media, but choose to spend it elsewhere and get the media anyway. It's extremely disrespectful to the developer.

I saw a guy trying to sell a hard copy of Xenogears in it's PS1 case with booklet and everything at convention this year for like 85 dollars. It's 5 dollars on the PSN store...

Digital media is horrendously overpriced already, accusing people of beings *** for pirating is ridiculous. It's not like people are stealing from a poor corner shop.

And no, ps1 games to me don't deserve a high price. Their development costs at time of creation were likely comparable to current development costs, if not higher. Graphics are dated, sure, but that's like saying classic movies should be cheaper because they're in black and white. You're paying much more for the content development than the actual media. Some of them were really amazing games, too.

$85? Selling you my copy at that price might almost be worth it.

Yeah f that. I love Xenogears just as much as the next RPG fan (no seriously, that game has a great story), but that's just idiotic to think you'd get that kind of money for a game that has a digital version for 1/17th the price. (it's either 5 or 10 bucks on the PSN store, w/e)

I don't see how you can differentiate between digital products and physical products... it's wrong to steal a physical copy of the game from the store right? but somehow it becomes alright to steal the game as long as it's in digital form? I don't get how there's such a disconnect other than that people just tell themselves its ok because they want something...

If I had money to spare I would buy a hard copy, but they can be found for around $50 on Ebay. That game changed the way I see things forever.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
