The whole reason I'm playing it (besides being a FF4 fan) is to see how it stands up against the original. So far I like the use of the 3d, but I have only been playing for 2 hours so I can't possibly make a comparison. What does annoy me though is the use of the lower screen as a map. Single player FF games do not have maps except on the world map screen, you explore and memorise, that's a huge part of the challenge when exploring the zones of FF. I hope it's not a sign of things to come as I always thought FF4 was a fairly challenging FF so I will be extremely dissapointed if it has been made ridiculously easy for the namby pamby players of today.
Rhythm based games are hot in Japan, so don't be surprised if it doesn't make it over here. They usually keep that stuff to themselves, like the Hatsune Miku games. I'm not a fan of them myself.
Everyone says that it's actually harder than the original.
I beat the original when I was like 6 and all I understood was "hmmm, this sword makes the number on the left turn blue, and this one makes it red...blue is good!"
something like that.
FF4 for DS is ridiculously easy. I mean, all it takes is some measured strategy, and they give you tons of abusive abilities. I.E. Counter and Provoke or whatever it was called. Put both of Paladin Cecil ----> Profit! Seriously, your party after that will never have to worry about taking damage from physical hits again, and it more than doubles Cecil's offensive capabilities. I really hate how they changed the name of the Crystal Sword AND made it suck donkey. Seriously though, tangents aside, it's waaaay easy. Not easier than the original mind you, but far easier to abuse and win at. Though there is one boss they revamped a little bit. The CPU in the Giant of Babil. They gave it some ridiculous move which shoots super powered laser beams. If it spams this move, then there is no way to win, and as far as I could tell, all the bosses had random AI patterns.
Saw the aftermath of a horrible car wreck this morning. Right after it happened, before any emergency people got there. I saw more blood and gore than I really needed to before work.

That honestly goes for just about every FF |:
There's always a way to exploit/pair up abilities and win the game

Really only every FF after 4, though it's really common over RPGs in general.
I guess if I had one praise for the DS version of 4, then it would be that healing is essential(almost every round), and buffs make a way bigger impact on things than in the original. I guess it's noticeably harder in the beginning, because they made it so that Cecil isn't basically a God. The battle mechanics are definitely more fun imo. Worth playing, worth beating and seeing all the changes.
I can't wait till later when Alymorel and I duo the Bastok past quests. They are so fun. Though I wonder if we can beat the gargoyle and demon at the end.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
