I'd like to go to Japan one day. I'd would be one of those people with a Eng/JP dictionary trying to communicate with everyone, lol.
I'm hungry but have no food. :[
I could only speak a few words in Japanese. I will definitely put more effort into learning some before the next time I go. Huge culture shock. I felt so out of place being a fairly tall white dude.
Did anyone know English? Even if I learned Japanese I wouldn't be very confident in my ability to speak it. I feel like I would offend someone by accident.[/quote]
People working at the subway knew enough English to help me get around which was a huge help. Other than that, you don't need to know anything to get by, but it certainly makes things easier. It's even so much better knowing someone who can speak it, because they can take you to a bunch of places that tourists likely wouldn't go.
The beach if anyone was wondering :D
