Well the Gouf Custom from 08th MS Team was similar (see GIF), but had different weapons. Instead of that heat "rod" up there, it shot a cable with a magnetic hook on the end that could electrocute enemies.
Maybe that's what you're thinking of? :O  dammit Leon

Yeah, 12 original episodes with an extra epilogue episode and a 1 hour long extra episode that is supposed to help bridge the gap between two episodes in the series. As usual with Gundam OVAs; better than the main series. Definitely worth the watch. Probably the weakest of all the OVAs, though. :I
