I've yet to be invaded or invade someone lol It's a server wide thing in demon souls, for example if a living player dies the world tendancy shifts towards black. If another player invades another world as a black phantom their character tendancy shifts to black, if they kill the player the world also shifts to black but if they are killed I think it shifts to white. Being summoned to assist a character shifts you to white as well, killing the zone boss gives a huge boost to world white etc.
The most noticable effect is somethings will only be there as pure white or pure black. For example in the first zone there is a gate that only opens pure black or white world tendancy, theres some treasure and a npc that will attack you either as a human (white) or phantom (black) and her drops differ based on which form. I kinda feel like Demon's Souls is the better of the two games, just from watching a playthrough of it.
They're both good, very good, but I think Demon's Souls is more well done in a way I guess. Both games have things they do better than the other though. When I say better I don't mean easier for the player but more appropriate for the game. Forgot how horrible the Mako is in ME1.

I got stuck between a pair of horzontal bars... I tryed jiggleing around for half an hour, shooting it, grenades, running against it, nothing could get me out. It had been a long time since I saved because I'm dumb that way. I got to the part in the castle where you gotta get passed the red dragon.. I got Biorr with me and he's taking flame to the face like a champ. xD But I can't kill the dragon.. forgot to buy arrows. :|
