Random Thoughts.....What are you thinking?
By Fyyvoaa 2012-10-14 09:01:31
Apparently I'm going to have to start making my own USB sticks, since few companies make what I want.
What is it you want? lol
Its not "100% official" but it makes sense when you think about it since its a widespread problem over the internet. My dual 690's handle everything I throw at them with stupid ease and nothing comes close to taxing them, yet the ONLY game that crashes or has any problems is a game that isnt optimized for ***in any way.
I'll put my money on it being SE's problem
Yeah I've only got a single 560 Ti (might get a second in a few months I dunno, or upgrade to a 6 series) and everything I toss at it (aside from the CPU and RAM limitations I have) runs great, except for XIV.
It is on SE.

lol I have a 5 series nvidia and it crashes like stupid, i'm going to try it with the new PC once I get it to see if the added RAM and CPU helps any (doubt it) can just hope that it's fixed better in 2.0
lol no amount of beefing up will fix code issues...
and like I said before, 16gb of ram is ridiculous overkill son.

At first I thought it mighta been because I was using it across 3 monitors, but then i cut it down to one,no difference in the bad performance, then i swapped to my old "debug monitor" (1680x1050) that I had laying around hidden away.Same problem.Dropped to 1280x720 windowed mode and the performance increased a SLIGHT bit but still crashed.Even more reason to believe its on SE. Its stupidly noticable even running around with how often it chugs when tying to load even textures and new areas. Bring on 2.0's new engine and hopefully people that know how to program!

I want some Sandisk USB flash drives with a hardware write-protect switch, to prevent infections from getting on my utility drives (like my bootable hirens, or just my USB install media).
But they don't make any, and few companies make them at all, I may have to go with an Imation, and I don't really trust it with important data, then again I have backups of this stuff so that shouldn't be as much of a concern I guess.
Even if I designed some sticks, I don't have the capital to produce enough to make them cheap enough to justify it, I'll just use optical disks most of the time, gah!

I know the feeling,I threw in 32gb in my new gaming rig and I've never seen it go above 6gb usage =\ and most of that coulda been reduced to about 4gb

He's giving me 16GB of ram for the price of 8, I couldn't say no lol.
I know he's putting in a decent aftermarket CPU heatsink also and some better fans (i've been going to him for the last few heat issues I have had lol)
He tried to get me to do water cooling but uh yeah ... nope.

I have seen a few that do that, but ... I dunno how well they could be trusted, plus I think they were overpriced the last I saw lol.

well as I said, some of my issue was outdated tech, I have major graphical lag in the big cities (which would honestly lead to some crashes I think) so i'm hoping this helps a little bit.
also I wanna play the new games :p I'm thinking of picking up dishonered.

fair enough, and who's giving you?
Yeah I'm not a big fan of water cooling either.
I've multiboxed while having multiple VM's open and still didn't max out my laptop's 8gb... Granted I'm surprised this thing didn't catch on fire when I did it, as it's a laptop with poor cooling...
On another note: I just had an idea, that I need to do some research into how the write-protect works and I may have came up with a solution :D
By Jetackuu 2012-10-14 09:12:53
I still don't know of many games that are CPU intensive, or really that much on ram, it's pretty much all graphics cards.

he's a friend that owns a business building custom rigs and repairing them, He's gonna also probably buy up the parts on my old PC that I don't recycle (mobo, RAM, CPU) so honestly the price will be lower, he's going to of course get a little more then what the parts are worth (he's gotta make some money lol) but I know he's charging me a little less since i've been going to him for my paltry PC problems lol.

Agreed, the most intensive game overall I have is max payne 3.When playing the CPU hovers around the 35% mark (give or take 5%) and my ram usage is around 4gb
By Fyyvoaa 2012-10-14 09:20:14
eh, I'd rather just get a little bit more now, then to worry about it later if (and when) things do require that.
I also do ALOT of video and photo editing, so anything that can help rendering crap faster is nice :p
By Jetackuu 2012-10-14 09:20:50

You'll be good then.I dont use photoshop but I hear ram is the most important thing for that, with a billion layers it starts to memory hog fast from what I understand.I'm sure a decent GPU is needed too obv for some rendering and whatever you crazy kids do in photoshop these days

i'd say cpu intensive games are maybe like
crysis II
battlefield 3
max payne 3
but then again its the GPU thats doing the majority of the math to support the game

Yeah lol i've had my PC lock up almost from photoshop :| when you get past the uh ... too many layers to count number it really starts to hate you (I'm sitting on 8GB ram now and i've gave it a run for it's money lol)

Crysis 2 runs me about 20% CPU and battlefield 3 is about 25% consistantly for both games.Personally wouldnt call them too cpu intensive but you've already clarified about the GPU carrying those games.I think its nice in Max Payne how it gives you a video memory requirement as you toggle the settings
By Fyyvoaa 2012-10-14 09:28:58
How is Max Payne 3? I might have to get that downloaded (i'd have to play through 1 and 2 again though urggghhh)
By Quiznor 2012-10-14 09:30:56
Its ok.Visually its *** gorgeous. Not a patch on quality on the first 2 games though. Its like a comeback special, the nostalgia gets you rather than the writing/gameplay.
Side note for volk, crysis 1 actually jumps my cpu more than 2,but thats because of the shitty coding and messy engine

and this is why I don't program, I'm too much of a perfectionist.
I also suck at it :P

BF3 on Ultra uses 75% of my i7 960 (@3.5) and 80% of my GTX590 (both sides) It is a very demanding game. Crysis and Crysis 2 don't use that much of my power.

I debated becoming a games programmer for a while because of the sickening level of programming and coding going into modern games. With the level of offensive bugs and glitches considered "acceptable" is an insult. But then I remembered how much I'd want to kill myself writing programming all day.
By Fyyvoaa 2012-10-14 09:38:26
I took a few programming courses and ugh ... no thanks.
I'd rather drink battery acid lol.

o_O thats madness.I play with everything maxed out on 5760x1080,even when I only had a single 690 it was 25% CPU and on a single 690 it was running around 50% total card usage, both cores.

I have basically nothing right now, then again I don't play modern PC games so my old stuff works :D

Ah,I misunderstood! My friend is starting to become a games programmer,he started college 2 weeks ago.And he hates the programming side of it already.Told him he would and thats why I never did it lol
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
