I like most movies based on video games.. I just go into it with an open mind rather than expecting accuracy and adherence to established story lines.
Most video game based movies everyone's always bitching about and making out like they're the worst movies ever made, aren't actually any worse than the rest of the ***Hollywood is constantly churning out...
They just (foolishly) expected it to be basically a big screen adaption of the game they already played.

Well, movie makers aren't stupid. They know video games alone are a big cash cow, and with the potential turn out of ticket sales from that said audience can make for a bigger cash out with a movie. The thing is, they're two separate mediums of entertainment with their own merits and shortcomings, so to expect elements of a playable, interactive game, regardless of story and characters will not bring out the same level of charm or memorability as the game would be able to bring out when displayed on the big screen with high budget special effects and A-list acting.
Same goes the other way around. I think film based video games are some of the worst games I've played, save for very very few exceptions.
Movie producers and game developers end up just coming to the conclusion that games like that, and movies like that hold no foundation on their own, and it's best to just "go with it" as a blatant cash out.
I've had some series ruined for me (Need for Speed for instance) and yes I know the feeling of having what you loved almost do a 180 and screwed every way possible. However, I was simply stating a side that I could see why they would do such a thing. Does it make sense or make it right? No. But game companies will do what it takes to make money (at least the majority will).
As for Silent Hill, as I said, I think that model looks silly and out of place for the game. Doesn't mean there aren't other options that actually fit the genre of the game. Though, after this many games I can see why a sudden change in character would upset some people. You love it for the aspect the older generation had, others may not.
My in-laws are coming to visit, it's the last time we'll see my brother-in-law before he ships off to basic training. Last time we'll all be together for at couple years, probably. They'll be here any time. I made them pie and was going to make them chicken caesar lasagna for dinner, but my chicken is still frozen and my pie is ugly! The filling is kinda sunken instead of perky and it overflowed.
Well, they can have hamburgers on the grill tonight I suppose. ._. And if I smother all their pie in copious amounts of ice cream maybe they won't notice that it's ugly.

DAMN IT LIELA
Should guise it within a deep dish cake pan smothered in batter and baked. Then you'd get PIECAKEN!

Oh don't get me started on NFS :( yeh I loved that series when it was about pure racing cars on awesome courses in the middle of nowhere! Then it went all ghetto and lame became more about looking flash than racing -.-
He's going away for awhile, make him comfort food instead of burgers..
Maybe Sheppard's Pie.. Narshee has that ***on my brain now..
Shepherd's pie is so good! I'd so eat it. But it's too hot :-( that's a dish best served in fall/winter. Maybe he'll get to come home for Christmas. I'd make it then for sure!
I started hating it after Carbon. Didn't like Underground 1/2, but I loved Carbon and Most Wanted. From there it went too simulation style for me. As my favourite event was drifting and running from the 50+ police chasing you (loved free roam). The actual last one I bought was Undercover and it was okay/meh. The earlier ones in the series (Hot pursuit and earlier) just felt too wired on the driving and didn't seem to flow well for me.
<_< I've never understood this 'you can only cook certain foods during certain parts of the year' thing..
I make BBQ and Burgers in the dead of winter and I make stew in the dead of summer.
It's not that you can't! It's just that usually I'm the only person in the mood for winter food during the summer and vice versa. Don't get me wrong, we'll stop at Burger King for a burger during the winter, but hecks no to making my own on the back porch in the rain or snow or cold.
Just like now, there's this potato cheddar soup that I like, and everyone else says it's just too hot for soup in the summer. So I make tiny portions and eat it for lunch while everyone else gets a sandwich.
But for big meals, I will go with majority rule, and the majority always rules no to hot food in summer. ;; They have no sense of adventure. Or I have no sense of seasons. Or something.
<_< I hated Carbon and disliked Most Wanted. Hated Underground 2, liked 1..
I was a fan of NFS back in the day.. I mean like NFS 3 day.. But as I grew older, it seemed to just get more and more gimmicky.. I absolutely hate racing games where I really don't have to even steer to get to the end of the track..
@Liela I just don't understand the mentality behind it..
You're not just eating refrigerated food when it's hot are you? Soup or Brisket with Beans, or Steak and Mashed Potatoes or whatever, it's all served at relatively the same temperature..
So how is it too hot for one food and not for another, and who decided that anyways? I didn't get the memo.

I can understand the gimmicky side to it. I didn't really care a whole lot about the visual customization of the cars. Loved upgrading the performance side though. Thing I mainly loved about Carbon was the drifting events in the game. I think they were the best done in that one. As far as not having to steer, I never noticed that, but then again I never once had any of the assists turned on (not saying you did). The older ones did have the actual race aspect to it better applied but I hated how it felt like your car was driving on a rail and was almost impossible to freely swerve and fishtail.
Though I mainly played racing games just to relax and drive around which is why I loved free roam. If I came across a race or ended up getting police after me, o well. I'd do it and go back to just dicking around. I'm sure you can guess why Slip. xD

I don't know. ;; I think maybe they mean heavy foods. Or something.
I honestly would eat just about anything just about anytime, but I get vetoed on these things.

Make it anyway. If they don't want it they can make their own food >_>
She means foods that are meant to warm you up after being outside in the cold. I can understand not wanting them on hot days, but if I'm wanting soup/chilli I'm going to eat some soup/chilli. Same for foods that are meant to help cool you down, Lemon pie for example. The idea behind it is the hot foods in the summer might just make you hotter and thus upset your stomach in the heat. I want to say it probably originated in the older days from blue collar workers coming in at lunch and at the end of the day being sweaty and hot, or wet and cold. I know if I've been outside in the heat the last thing I want is a meal designed to warm you up from the inside.

That's why man invented the Air Conditioner. <_<;;;;
Also being a gardener now and having some general knowledge of what to plant and when.. I suppose it could also be related to the fact that most of the ingredients you see in traditional 'winter foods', do not grow well in summer. That would have to date back way to when people planted their own food or traded for it from other local farmers though..

Oh, this makes sense. More sense than just my folks telling me we can't have mashed potatoes because they're 'hot food' but we can have pizza at the same temperature and that's peachy. Much more sense!

It's a conformity thing, Slip. Didn't you know that if you eat stew in the summer that you'll get crabs? And I'm not talking about blue crabs, my friend.
I didn't say it should apply these days, but in a lot of areas I'm sure it does. Like areas where people don't have an AC and like in the older days where people couldn't really afford such a new contraption unless you were well off (thinking depression/post-depression era). It's just the continuation of an archaic ideal that has most likely been ingrained into the minds of the younger generation.
It must be just following tradition for tradition's sake. Darn those traditions! I want mashed potatoes!
and scalloped potatoes
and au gratin potatoes
and cubed potatoes
and baked potatoes
and Idaho Sunrises
and all the other potatoes! Why do I always have to crave potatoes? ._.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
