Changing things is fine, but it's sad and almost insulting to fans to see something so majestic made to look so silly. I don't see why it being a post apocalyptic setting should influence them, the influence I suppose comes from the biomechanical development given to PSICOM by the Fal'Cie for use on monsters. Too late :p
I didn't see anything really bad about it ... just uh ... a little interesting? It is post apocalyptic I'd say, it's set a few hundred years after the War of Transgression when Pulse L'cie ripped the hole in Cocoon.
