6 hours into FFX now, I'm surprised! It's very good so far and much better than I expected. However, just came across a line where Tidus talks about the song he is hearing in this temple, and there is nobody else in the temple, so who's singing the hymn unless they have an integrated audio system... oh FFX, why you let yourself down >_>;;

It's obvious who is singing the hymn. Keep playing and it should click in.

I liked X except for the ending. Still feels like one big Bobby Ewing thing to me. Perhaps I need to finish my replay again. I'm almost to the end too, and I just hate how much of a hat trick the final antagonist is along with...something I can't mention with Sagi around.

Then again, FF8 and 9 did the same thing sorta.

Indeed, it's another example of a slap in your face giveaway of the underlying plot, like I said before they should be more subtle. The best example of such mastery is KOTOR, where you get hint after hint after hint and are made to feel like an idiot when it's eventually revealed to you lol, but it's so cleverly done and disguised that you just don't see it coming.

That's pretty much what X does to you. Gives you tons of little hints along the way then drops something big on you like a sack of bricks.
But even knowing all the intricate details and an understanding of what is going on underneath the surface, everything at the end felt so sudden and ultimately underwhelming when 99% of the game had a fantastic story and build up until that conclusion..

Yeh hopefully I will still be wow'd! Thing is I've tried to avoid spoilers for FFX as best I can but inevitably picked up a partial synopsis here and there to the plot and it's conclusion, but not enough that I could actually recant what happens, besides I very much enjoy the journey to get there! So far though I really like it, plenty of positives and few complaints... besides the stupid trousers >_>

FFX is still a masterpiece in it's own right.
The protagonist, though annoying at times, was bright and cheerful, thoughtful and encouraging, and held close to virtually ever member of the cast, rather than strictly the love interest at hand. Also he shared a burning passion of hatred and disgust to the antagonists that threatened his friends and their way of life, despite being misplaced and held at no obligation to understand or care, he still drives himself to learn and be a part of it.

The soundtrack is as expected, absolutely sublime despite being based on a very emotional, religious, and natural world background, rather than the intricate, ornate, grandiose and even industrial environments we're used to in previous FFs. Uematsu captures the gravity of every situation and character emotion therein very well, all while maintaining a balance with surrounding environments and whatnot.

But more importantly, FFX is projected on a foundation very few have touched on: Hope. Not since FF6 have I seen such triumph in contrast of such dire and hopeless situations, which would otherwise bring even the most stalwart of characters to a surrendering whimper. The cast fight their way though the veil of lies and obscurity. They question the way things are and project themselves into new solutions to break Spira's cycle of death and surrender. Rather than a simple passive sense of obligation laced with angst, we have characters that break the "emo" mold and get things done, because it is the right thing to do, no matter how insurmountable of an objective it may seem.

Sorry, got a little carried away.
But FFX was a breath of fresh air from the ongoing trend perpetuated from FF7 and 8.

Yeh but yeh so far I find Tidus more amusing in his lad attitude than annoying, he's really not that bad a character but I am only 6 hours in so I can't really comment yet. The music, wow, sublime is a great word to describe what I have heard so far. I keep hearing parts of music that I think I have heard before though o_O

Do you think these sound similar o_O?

They use similar instruments and follow a like tempo, but are different melodies. Good observation there though. But I think the best track of all is when you finally reach the trail to the Zanarkand Ruins.

That top song (Someday The Dream Will End)......so moving.

Listen to it wearing in-ear headphones at full blast with your eyes closed. Its like a spiritual experience.

Also, Sagi, I'm very proud of you for giving FFX a go. Please finish it to the end, you'll have a lot of "OMG!!!" moments as you go, I promise.

Its seriously one of my favorite entries in the series.

I have noticed a few tracks with what seem like different melodies but still very reminiscent of music from other FF!

It's been on my gaming list for a long time, as a diehard FF fan I often find myself drawn into discussions about all the games and I've had a fairly biased opinion against FFX without having ever actually played it for myself. Of course the main reason I'm playing it is because I love FF <3

I never leave a game unfinished so it will definitely be completed!

...but flaming Nora this Blitzball tutorial is long >_>;;
