My mom just called the local police asking them if they were picking my sister up from the mental health unit to take her to see the judge for her DWI. They pretty much said that they have already given her tickets and don't need her anymore, that they don't always have an arraignment immediately following the ticketing.
I'm stunned by this, I was under the assumption that when you get a DWI that they take you license away, as in immediately. I'm being told now that these people sometimes get to go around with their license intact until the court date for their ticket?? My sister totaled her car and blew a .19 when they got her to the station, she drove almost a mile on a rim, the right front tire was completely gone.
So basically my sister got put in the mental health unit when ***looked at it's worst, 2 days later she is talking like nothing happened and just wants to get out to start trying to get her insurance claims started. She will essentially learn nothing and is already calling *me* crazy for wanting to move out and not be her room mate anymore. As messed up as it sounds, I wanted her to lose her license, to lose her job, to ruin her life for a while. At least that way she could open her *** eyes to the shitty drink away her life-style she has been living.
On top of that it looks like she will have the option to take a plea for a DWAI instead of the DWI because it was her first offense.
*** HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE.
Depends on the state and judge really.. I had a friend just recently get caught for DWI and all that happened to him his is license got suspended (this is a couple months after the initial incident, when the judge finally made his ruling after he plead guilty) for 6 months and he has to do 15 days in jail (technically 30, but jail here is over crowded so as long as you have good behavior they do a 2 for 1 deal to push people out faster.. Actually he still hasn't gotten in jail yet because it's too full.. They are actually refusing him and telling him to come back another day.)
Never mind the fact that he's on PAROLE and isn't supposed to be drinking to begin with.
As for the 'justice system' it stopped making sense to me when: (I'm fixing to bring up a dead loved one, just fair warning)
My brother's murderer did less than 2 years in jail for shooting my brother in cold blood.. Yet get caught with crack or something and holy ***you can do up to 5 years.. Crack is bad but there is no *** way in hell that even a moderate amount of crack is worse than cold blooded murder. It wasn't an accident, it wasn't a gang shooting.. He just flat out shot my brother for no real reason. And instead of calling for an ambulance or something he waited to go hide the guns he had in his house.. So did everyone else in that house. The whole situation was just *** up. Hell my brother might even still be alive today if it weren't for the fact that everyone waited like 10-20 minutes so that *** could go hide the guns first.
