»I grew up eating fried okra.. I don't even remember the first time I tried, it's basically been a part of my life since I could chew.. We'd go to Luby's like every other week and I'd always get the same thing. Chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes and gravy and a side of fried okra, a roll, a pickle and pumpkin pie.
Have you tried it again recently? I know there are some things that I absolutely hated as a child and then tried again when I was an adult and found that I absolutely loved it (no adjustment period or 'developing a taste for it' or anything like that, either. First bite, hooked.) broccoli being one relevant example.
Pretty recent, yeah. On my trip to Wisconsin, we came up through Missouri and got to this really awesome
restaurant in Lebanon. Their claim was that they had the best catfish in the Midwest, and after trying some for myself, I can't disagree with that statement. Best I've ever had, anyway.
Here's the point. They had a basket with their all you can eat catfish, and in it they had an assortment of stuff like hush puppies and fried okra. I had one okra and that flavor of nastiness just shot up in my mouth. So, even at a place as awesome as that, I still hate okra.
