After my last relationship... I'm just sick of religion. I'll respect her for having hers, but if she finds it to be the basis of our relationship entirely, I want nothing to do her. I don't know how many times I kept hearing her tell me that she doesn't want our relationship to go further until I convert to Christianity. No more.

I woulda left after it happened the second, maybe the third time.. Of course I would have flat out told her "if you do this again, we're through. I respect your beliefs, and I expect you to respect mine. If my non-religion is a problem for you, then you're right, this relationship should go no further.".

That sucks. She's facing a lifetime of having to lie to herself just to stay with that guy. Not to say that he might be feeling the same way if she asked him to become an Atheist (which I'm sure somewhere that's happened). I personally feel like if both parties respect the other person's religious beliefs (or lack thereof) but don't try to impede on it, then that's the basis of a good relationship. But if one is trying to dominate the other... That's no bueno. I stood my ground with my ex, and she hated that. I even offered her a compromise and said I'd be Agnostic, instead. Again, it was either Christianity or nothing. So, after all that, I've chosen nothing.

I did have a GF for a few months who was religious as hell, bordering on nut job religious.. Wait, technically I had two, but the first one only lasted a few days.

Anyways.. that ***drove me insane.. She never tried to get me to convert or preach at me or anything, but she would talk about god all the time, every subject somehow god would work it's way in and I would just face palm or roll my eyes. She knew it bothered the hell out of me but "I can't help it, this is how I was raised".

I woulda left after it happened the second, maybe the third time.. Of course I would have flat out told her "if you do this again, we're through. It was a huge red flag, Slip. I should've acted on it quicker than I did. But either way, I'm glad it's over, now. My one regret was that she got me to watch Sex and the City 2 before it ended. /shudder

Yeah...I'll admit that I only have general knowledge of other religions. Judaism, just because of my Jewish buddy while growing up. The only outside reading I've done on Buddhism and Hinduism (and it was a while ago now) were just because of maybe a small blurb in conversation that piqued my interest.

I ventured into the wild in search of Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker and I was successful... though I had to endure of a bus ride of old lady gossip I came through more or less sane.

One summer when my HS sweetheart and I came back from college, we got on to the subject of religion...I told him about my doubts. He asked, "Well, why did you even go to church?" Response /shrug, "For my grandfather." I asked him, "Why do you go to church?" He had nothing, but still insisted that when we graduated college, got married, had kids, blah blah blah...That they needed to be Methodist, but never really gave an answer as to why.

I think people just go out of habit here sometimes.

I can see it coming out once in a blue moon, but if every conversation goes to that it's just grating! I love my dad, but I hate him in huge social situations. Those are the only things he will have a conversation about. Try to turn the subject, but no more than a few minutes later...Back to politics/religion.

Nobody wants to hear him jabber about how awful Obama is when we're playing darts! RAWR!

I kinda refuse to have a public conversation about politics/religion usually, just because people who don't have anything to do with the conversation butt in with their ideas and I really don't like that.

I just clam up and go find a book or something till it's done.
