Lulz.

Love seeing an ex-girlfriend's feed and noticing they deleted everything with me in it. It means they were having trouble getting over me. :P

Plus her new boyfriend is uglier than me, so that's nice. :B

Well this really sucks.

My PS3 just YLOD(Yellow Light of Death) on me, and from what I've been reading on the official site, it looks like I'm going to lose all of my saved game data which includes Skyrim, a few profiles on Dark Souls and misc. games.

why?

mine did it again on me, I haven't bothered to pop it open to see what is wrong this time.

your hard drive is removable which holds all your data, are you planning to get sony to fix it? is it in warranty?

My PS3 is like 6 years old, so I doubt it's in warranty anymore.

As for retrieving any data on it, I read about people trying a SATA cable but when they connect it to a computer then it tries to reformat the HD and won't read it.

I'm going to call tomorrow and see what Sony recommends.

As for retrieving any data on it, I read about people trying a SATA cable but when they connect it to a computer then it tries to reformat the HD and won't read it.

I'm going to call tomorrow and see what Sony recommends.

if it's no longer in warranty, get a screwdriver, take the thing apart, get some lime juice (or other citrus cleaner) a tad bit and clean off the old heat goop on the cpu/gpu etc and the heat sinks, then replace it with some new thermal paste (I use Artic Silver 5, but w/e makes you feel better) but before you replace the heat goup, attempt a reflow with a heat gun, there's some youtubes on how to go about it. then replace the thermal paste, and reassemble, it should fix it.

as for your hard drive if you just want to get a new one, you should be able to put the thing in an external hard drive enclosure and hook it up to the usb on a new ps3 (or pop it in another ps3, it's easy to get to) and read the data off it.

it shouldn't try to format it but I'll look it up in a second.

the only thing that you can do other than reflowing is get a reballing done, which you'd have to get a professional with the equipment to do.

(having a lot of 360 issues right now, same problem, cheap solder).

Yeah, I have the bigger model. As far as taking it apart, I really doubt my skill at being able to do that without messing something up in the process. I'll just call Sony tomorrow and ask if there's anyway I can retrieve my saved data and move that onto a new PS3.

(Repairs cost $120 minimum, and that's half of a brand new one. Might as well get a new one.)

I'd get it fixed for $120, not more than that though, is it one that can play ps2 games?

it's not hard, but probably without getting it reballed how long it will work is questionable.

reflowing is the ghetto fix, but can be done by anyone who has a screwdriver and a heat gun.

just googled it, it looks like the hard drive is coded to that ps3, so without fixing it no.

you might be able to look to see how much a solder reballing job on it is in your area, from somebody other than sony. (replacing the solder, which is typically the cause of the ylod).

If it was the one that could play PS2 games I would definitely get it repaired.

I have work tomorrow but I'll Google for ways to simple fix it and see if I have a glue gun around my house. But for now I'm going to sleep!

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it!
