Random Thoughts.....What are you thinking?
By Artemicion 2012-01-24 17:38:30
It's a broad mixture of being unaware of my own ambitions and carefully treading on uneven ground as far as the general direction of industry as well as their required level of qualifications.
I'm sure I can convince myself into getting into programming and getting into things like webdev and whatnot but ultimately I'm unsure of where to start or what would be ideal. But it's unanimous and common knowledge that there will be a great deal of math involved, so that's probably the best place to start.
that's why I enjoy this degree of study, even if I don't end up working on electronics design or programming I could always end up (for backup) in some general electronics field...
So for someone with nothing more than high school under their belt and an above average knowledge and a skeptical ambition for computer hardware/software related work, what would be the best direction to take in getting started?

In recent news, Xbox live has been banned, all of it. Users worldwide received one single word in a message before services were banned moments later simply saying "Enough". Within a week you would see headlines like "Suicide rate of angry 12 year olds skyrocket"

Thank you :)
I'll check out and see what some local community colleges have to offer.
I'm not looking for anything super cereal yet. Just wanna have a drive in the right direction instead of being stuck in customer service retail forever. /wrist

A bachelors would help me get on my feet for ideal fields of work, but frankly I wouldn't even know what to look into as far as majoring and minoring goes. But as Iro noted, just gotta start with the basics and real general classes while the fundamentals get taken care of as well.
Sadly I'm not as ambitious as a person as I'd like to be. But who knows? Perhaps once I put my foot in the water, I'll be swimming to the other end without hesitation.

get a 2 year degree at your local CC and transfer to a 4 year if you're up to it, it's a good safe route.
I know vccs has a transfer with ODU, but I doubt you live in va.

I plan on doing an associates in General Education with an emphasis on Computer Science. I'd basically doing all the required courses for the CS and making most of my other electives history based so that I'm basically minoring in it. There are some pretty awesome courses (like medieval history).
It will knock out a lot of prereqs for a majority of higher degrees I may be interested in, but still be specific enough for me to add CS to the end for my current job field. It will also give me a taste of other areas to see if I like them more.
Server Engineering pretty much has me hooked right now though.

Need some debts paid off, a car, and a little more job security before I can hit the road and go back home or to LA which are the two places I rather be than here. Those are top priority for the time being, but if I can squeeze two years of education under my belt and have some college credits in a field i'm interested in, all the better.
Might mean living in this shithole a few extra years, but the results should be worth it.

according to fox news, 'excellent' is now spelled like 'expedient'.
they were quoting the part of the constitution that talks about the state of the union address.

you could always do freelance work with some games.
some of the best games I've played of late are not mainstream games.

i've been thinking about that. when i get some more experience i'll probably start doing the game making contests and stuff to get more practical experience. i'd love to get my hands on RMXP again, i really like working with RGSS and being able to see how it works

no, it's either built in or a custom expansion card (I mean they have a standard but they are oem only, and you'd be better off buying a new laptop)

A friend of mine has been working with the Mushroom Kingdom Fusion team for awhile now, they don't actually code but it's still an impressive project. (some people make the sprites etc...but yeah.)

Alright thanks. Talking about building a PC then someone mentioned just doing that. But then they didn't even answer if they were trolling me.

My hair can hold up a good 6 months after going to the salon...after that I'm kind of....stuck holding it down myself. I'm running out of options though...thank goodness my birthday is in 2 months :D

I toyed with the idea of making a portable desktop with a battery and everything but currently the amp/hour pull would require an insane battery requirement and it's just not practical.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
