EXCUSE YOU GOOD SIR.
I just noticed.. Your avatar looks like she's getting it from behind, except by like a 90 year old man or something that has to spend a good 10 seconds to work up each thrust.

I never understood why so many people have beef with Steam.
I don't really have a beef with them, but I am against using them.. I like to have physical copies of my games, and not just burns/rips, the actual CD/DVDs produced.. As well as the complete box (I get very upset if that cardboard slip that some of the bigger named games come in gets screwed up, despite the fact that the plastic box itself has pretty much identical art) I'm just weird like that.. I have like 8-10 games on PS3 I will never again touch, but I keep them anyways.. I like looking at my pile of games.

I also still have all the original paper packing of Medal of Honor: Allied assault, which is like 10 years old.. I don't have the actual jewel case anymore, but I kept everything else. I haven't touched that game in 8 years +

See I totally understand where you're coming from because I'm a case guy too. I refuse to download movies or even albums unless I have immediate intention to purchase the album as it is necessary for me to have the physical copy and thus the artist/developer's intended product with artwork and all. However, over the years games have simply become so encumbering with generic bulky boxes, fragile jewel cases and redundant advertising and promotion slips for what over time has become a steadfast feature in a field that has been diminishing in quality in terms of content and enjoyment.
For that reason I happily embraced Steam and as noted before, it bypasses what would have otherwise been a TOTAL *** NIGHTMARE of online registration and hoop jumping just to play a single player game. What the flying *** man?!

Alas, I rant. But I completely agree with you, but when it comes to video games, I make an exception and go with Steam, especially when it comes to their sales. Plus hard drive failure, arson, natural disaster, divine punishment, etc have my games protected as my account credentials are forever kept online and on record with them.
I've never really had that problem.. The only things where outside registration and jumping through hoops is warranted or necessary is when the game is not just a single player game.. When there is outside signing up to do, at least from all that I've played, it's always for some benefit in-game.. Like early access to a weapon. When I buy a game and full well plan to play it online, I already anticipate all these extra sign-ups.. So I'm not really bothered by it. I usually just do it while the game itself is installing. If I don't have something to do while it's installing I tend to just sit there and watch it tick by at 1% per 5 minutes (or so it feels like).

You must have been lucky, because I quickly regret buying the hard copy of GTA4, as it was mandatory to register it not only with Rockstar's Social Club, but also for Windows Games Live, which also required to be linked with my previously existing XBL gamertag/account. It wouldn't even launch the game and even noted it would not create any save files until registration was complete and I was freakin logged onto their system to play. The whole thing made me wanna rip my hair out, but with Steam... total plug and play. Purchase, download, play, done.

But also DLC is much more organized and collective with Steam than it was with my ever growing pile of boxes of added content and expansion packs which also were significantly more expensive to purchase separately than it would to get one of Steam's deals.

Luckily Steam was painless enough to get me playing The Sims 3 too, as I already am familiar with EA's registration process. I think I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a plastic spork than go through that ever again.

There is a way to just install and play the game, and it's the method I used.. They just don't make it obvious, but it takes almost no time at all, it's pretty much as simple as clicking two links (from in the game) and from that point on it's set and you're ready to go.

Anyways, I had already had my Rockstar account and GFW account from earlier games where I actually wanted to sign up to both. So when I decided it was time to hit the online play portion, I was already set.
