I'll answer, but keep in mind, it is only my
opinion.
I don't 'play' but I have played, I didn't like it.. The graphics for me were a huge turn off from the beginning (I really don't like 'playing cartoons' the same thing bothered me in Fable) but the gameplay just doesn't do it for me..
It's just too easy, it was like Diablo 2, but take out the possibility of being over-run by numerous enemies or the challenge that the bosses provided..
I spent an hour playing, a friend was trying to get me into it, I kept telling him no, but he wouldn't listen, so I finally let him bring his computer over here and I gave it a shot (an honest shot) and here's what happened..
I wandered around forever killing the weakest of enemies that never posed a threat to me and then running back to a town or something to complete the quest, I didn't gain any sense of strategy or impending doom.. You walk out Sandy and start killing bunnies without looking at the names, you learn 'strategy' pretty quickly, you learn to stay away from Hares until you're higher, you fight a Mesmerizer or Grappler because 'I fought a fodder and won easily' you learn from that mistake and strategize in the future..
So I brought this up and said I was done and I'll just never be into it, and then the friend claimed I would never be able to beat whatever is the big bad WoW version of an NM, and I took him up on it.. All I had to do was spam abilities.. This was at high levels (whatever max is for WoW, this was on his char) where it should really matter that I don't have a clue what I'm doing.. I did what he thought was impossible.
The icing on the cake? I convinced him to give FFXI a shot, he spent a whole three days on it, one day when I wasn't around to help him, he went wandering around, and died and that was the final straw for him.. Why was it the final straw? I'll never forget it (don't remember word for word, but it might as well be) it perfectly illustrates the difference between FFXI and WoW, he said something to the effect of "Why was I allowed to enter a place where things could kill me so easily? This game is stupid.".
Edit: This is getting it's own seperate post.
Also, the place he'd found himself in was the deepest bowels of Rangemount Pass, and this was before he should've even been attempting to solo anything in La Theine.
How he got that far, I'll never actually know, but he was way in there, nearly to Beaucidine (I know that's not spelled right)
