By the time my children are adults, if it continues in this pattern, anything they do or say could be misunderstood as terrorism. Not cool.

Wouldn't really matter where you live, the whole world seems to be going to ***, even if they're not directly involved, if say, Iran/China/N. Korea do start lobbing nukes or start up a war, it could easily affect every country.

I've been saying for a long time that our rights are being slowly stripped away, so it's not like I'm just oblivious to that, but I'm more worried about how the world is going to be in general for my son when he's older, than the noose the government is putting on our rights.

Aw Slip. You are right, just like usual. It doesn't make me feel better for my future babies, but it's true.
All that said, I would say not to let what may happen in the future with the world/country prevent you from having a kid if you decide you want to have one. Life has never really been easy, at any given time in history there has been any number of reasons to not have kids because of what may happen.. But we're here, and doing okay for the most part.

I'm hoping that eventually the older politicians will retire and younger ones will replace them with different ideas and start to reverse what has been done. Give freedoms back, stop spending on unnecessary programs, etc.

I can dream, right?
but the thing is, by that time, will it be too late? will enough damage have been done to make it unlikely for the country to recover?
Maybe, maybe not. I imagine with enough time and effort, it could be salvaged. Even a small ripple can become a great wave, no?

Time will tell. It always does, never trust time with secrets.

I will still have one as soon as I can talk my husband into it. :D

Anyways, he says that we have to be settled in first, so since we are moving to our new jobs this summer, I say we should wait a year to be sure we are settled in where we want to be. During that year (starting this summer) I'll get off caffeine, start eating my fruits and veggies, increase my daily intake of folic acid, and start taking prenatal vitamins and exercising more. That way I'll be all ready and prepared for when we are ready to try to have a baby! Wheee! :D

And if for some reason we can't have a child on our own, I'd be perfectly happy to adopt, too.

Edit: Also, look at my niece! My niece is amazing!

Great empires usually last more than a couple hundred years though. Even Rome didn't just disappear over night, the downfall of Rome was a long drawn out process.. It wasn't just one thing that lead to it's decline, either. It was a long series of poor decisions, there were multiple times when the right person making the right choices could turned it all around.

Even if the country does get run into the ground over the next 20~ years, there's still every chance it can simply be turned around by making the right choices.

Hearing more Nos than Ayes

edit:
I'm starting to read that the amendment that was No'd on was supposed to make the bill better (giving immunity to Universities and such)

DAMNIT I thought this was on the entire bill at first.

My bad. That's on the Amendments to the amendment, which would've made SOPA much better.

I have a bad feeling about this now.

Now they're voting on the actual amendment, I think.

More No's than Aye's

Let's hope it stays this way (with many no's) when they vote on the act itself.

I heard something about studying abroad.

If they *** things up that won't let me study abroad I will be so pissed.

SOPA is generally a good idea but it seems like it's also going to penalize websites for things they didn't do, which is very unfair.

It would be much easier to trust them if this were true. Not even the diplomas part, just that they were unpaid. It seems like that way only people who actually wanted to help the country would become politicians.
