Dogs always love you, cats love you sometimes, if that. If you want a pet for the cuteness factor, get a Fennec Fox or some equally adorable animal.
That said, I don't hate cats. However, I wouldn't choose one as a pet over the various types of canines out there.

Playing Red dead redemption and come across a random camp.. the man says "Hey there! sit down and join us!" so I did.. right as I sat down a snake killed his wife and she just fell over infront of me >.> He didn't even react. :|
