Last of Us finale was terrible. They are clearly trying to make Ellie a more sympathetic character and I don't really know why. Now it's gonna be a 2-3 year wait for more bad writing.

The worst part of the show is the complete and total lack of infected. Like 12 minutes of the full ~280 minute runtime across 7 episodes?

And they're trying to milk a 4th season. It's going to get cancelled after no one shows up for season 3. Everything gets cancelled before it ends. It's just perpetual blueballs.

Well if Rooks says it's good I guess I will have to buy it. Been put off beccause it's French and I've got Le Trauma Francaise.
It's so French that if I hadn't known it was made by the French, I would have assumed it was racist against the French

Yup, only 36 hours late. It still hasn't made it to a site, only a torrent. Make it 37 hours late.

Nothing else was.

Worst part of the show is the actress for Ellie, she ruins it completely. Without Joel this season was unbearable.

I'm surprised Wheel of Time made it beyond season 1. It was so bad.

It completely wrecked the books and season 1/2 were weak. But, I thought the actors(+actresses) really hit their stride in season 3. Would've happily watched a few more seasons just to see the changes in the wheel and enjoy the acting, even if it didn't do the books justice.

Writing team was a trainwreck though, for sure.

That's what I keep hearing. The near end of s1 kinda killed it for me, the whole thing was so cheeseball I never bothered watching s2. It had moments that kept me going but some of the bad moments were just so bad.

I haven't read the books, I've heard they are good, but all the book fans I know are pretty sour about the way the series turned out also.

It's sad seeing this series and The Witcher get botched so badly. It's like they saw the success of GoT, ignored the lesson of the last two/three seasons, and figured everyone just wanted more fantasy adaptations. Sadly I think the lesson they are taking away from the failure of their attempts is probably "people don't want fantasy adaptations" not "people don't want poorly implemented, badly written fantasy adaptations", which is what the real issue is. It still blows my mind they screwed up The Witcher THAT badly.

It should be obvious that much of the appeal of fantasy adaptations is a combination of nostalgia and writing quality. They keep trying to turn them into pop-fiction and cramming in representation and eye candy, and it doesn't work.

Seems like the goal is to get a wider audience than the original material, but they end up disappointing both the fans and the outsiders.

I think I'm done with Last of Us, kinda thought it would end already in season 2.

Wheel of Time was butchered to hell and back, stopped at season 1. Admittedly I was expecting book story.

There's really going to have to be a come to Jesus moment with (all) media.

It's all prohibitively expensive to make and if your expected fanbase was only the people who read the books, you can't afford to make it. So you change it and hope to reach a wider audience than the one that came baked in, and you lose even more.

The whole scheme is unsustainable. EVEN knowing that every loss subsidizes the next project. It can't go forever.

Add in that there's 20 streaming services and having one show on each makes no one want to subscribe to all of them.

I get needing to make small changes to fit the screen, but discarding source material entirely just seems like a bizarre choice.

I'm not sure they'll ever really "get it". In post-interviews and AMAs with showrunners for shows like GoT, The Witcher, and some Star Wars content, they seen wholly oblivious to why people didn't like their content. The idea that the writing was ***or made no sense doesn't even register. Lauren Hissrich even went on reddit for an AMA in a notoriously hostile (to the show, anyway) Witcher subreddit, but still walked away with whatever it was we ended up with.

What's crazy is how much of a pattern it has become. Multiple shows fail for the same reason and somehow the complaint of the entire fanbase just doesn't land in the ears of the people that keep doing it. You'd think after similar failures, someone would stop to ask why it happened and evaluate rather than make the same mistakes.

Wheel of Time was always going to be a big lift because of the sheer size of the story (13 books) and all of the characters that came with it. Changes to the story can happen for all kinds of reasons, Season 3 had two character deaths that upset the fans but those actors got other jobs.

Which is always kind of an overlooked concept. Nobody on that show was making a lot of money, all the dollars went into the production. And some of those actors could have been there for the 20 years it would have taken to finish the show. Big ask when the dollars aren't there.

I'm surprised it got cancelled just because it felt like the last season finally got the show on the right track. But the viewership didn't hang in there for it. Which is sad because we will probably never get another adaptation of such a great book series. But hey, more Trash of Thrones spinoffs.

I just installed a monitoring system on my circuit breaker to see a detailed breakdown of my energy needs. I've been thinking about solar panels and wanted to really understand my electricity needs.

I am pretty dang surprised to see that my gaming PC is the highest power draw in my house. More than my clothes dryer, more than the refridgerator, more than the microwave.

I've only had this monitor for a week, but so far my PC uses about 3kwh per day just being on and running this stupid idle game I play. I played Expedition 33 for a few hours over the weekend and at full tilt my PC pulls 650w. I ended up with 6.5kwh one day and 5.5kwh of power draw the next only playing like an hour.

TL:DR : A decent gaming PC can cost like $0.75 a day just being left on and as much as $1.25/hr using your PC at 100% performance.

7800X3D
3090
64gb DDR5
45" OLED monitor
AIO and a lot of fans

Here's the graph. Prices I mentioned are just rough guesses based on my utility costs, won't be the same for everybody. This is also my entire office circuit. I had a small window fan going, some LED lighting on my desk, but nothing big.

Subpanel is my EV charger and my work shop(which has no draw when not in use)

The average cost of power in the US is around 17 cents per kWh, in the UK it's around 35 cents per kWh. Cause the politicians are insufferable shitters, a huge % of that is tax / green levies.

So whatever you pay, you would pay around double if you were the uk.

First time with an amd build
3 instances
70c and 70-85% cpu usage?
Smt disabled dont think ffxi can use it

Too bad I have no idea what my old temp and cpu usage was but I dont think it was nearly as high

No lag as far as I can tell.

Anyone got any tips for reducing alt instance demands other than making sure pivot is not loaded and maybe changing resolution

My 7800X3D and my wife's 7700X are both pretty hot. We both have AIO coolers and I replace thermal paste once a year. I average 65-75c CPU temps as well. My previous 3700X on a EK waterblock ran at basically ambient temps all the time and never went over 60c during 100% loads.

I turn shadows off, all effects off (especially weather), reduce draw distance, no AoE visual, and no super sampling. I run them at much lower resolutions also. Probably more, those windows look awful. PS2 level awful.

Haven't used AMD in ages but 70c is not abnormal for today's CPUs.

They tend to run pretty hot. As long as it's not throttling I wouldn't worry about it.

Drayco - that 3090 is a 600W card on its own at high utilisation.
