Can't wait for AI to detect you skipped 60 seconds ahead and halt playback.
This won't be that big a deal; since content buffering *has* to be allowed for any sort of reasonable experience, it's totally up to the client to decide what it reports back to the server and what it shows to the user. Even if they were to splice the ad directly into the video feed so there's no technical distinction, you could manually skip ahead(or maybe anti-ad AI tools will recognize the scene jump, or ad blockers will keep key frames to be aware of it happening).
I don't think they can force you to watch ads without a large scale redesign of the entire system. It's more likely that one or 2 OS releases down the road, we'll have so little control over our own applications that they can do whatever they want.
Edit: Maybe they limit buffering based on real time so that you can't get more than 5-10 seconds ahead, and splice the ads. A smart enough client/adblocker is then left with a best case scenario of having you pause the video for at least the length of the ads over the duration of the video. You could still leave the tab open and wait 30 seconds before starting to skip 30 seconds of ads, or similar, though.
Some social engineer or group of them is already trying to figure out how to charge crypto or sell an nft with adskip. It's just a matter of time. If they don't come out with a youtube coin you accrue by watching (ads) and expend to skip ads in the semi immediate future I'll be amazed.
(and work with Valve as they did previously to force everyone to "upgrade" to windows 12 or lose access to their games library, whether they want it or not)
This is a very weird way to phrase the whole situation of Steam not supporting win7 due to Google chrome version issue lol.
I don't think they "work" with Valve for that. Valve is the one losing business if older windows users can no longer buy their games.

Not a lawyer but I am still 80% sure this is against competition law.
MS and google are competitors in browser business, why would they work together anyways? What benefit do they get? Makes no sense.
If MS can block other browsers without breaking the law the first thing they'll do is block google chrome for better business, not working with them lol.

Steam uses Chrome for their launcher, Chrome dropped support for windows 7 so Valve dropped support.
They had a large red warning at the top of their launcher for months, stating Steam would stop working when it hit 0. This caused a huge amount of backlash, but also convinced massive numbers of users to move to windows 10.
Nothing happened when the timer hit 0, Steam still works fine on Windows 7.

Yeah, but this is just platform technology advancing so dev are dropping support, it is not "Valve working with Google"....there are no benefit for Valve to kick Windows 7 users out of their platform for less money. They do that probably because maintaining win7 support cost more money.
You said Google working with Valve to force user change their OS, that's way too much conspiracy theory going on lol.
Haven't been on here in ages. Woke up this morning randomly wondering, 10-15 years later since the politics threads debates; where all the zio loving boys are now?

If you were a lawyer you would be figuring out how much each side in this case could afford to pay and be sending out a prospectus.
But as the government has its own lawyers there is really only one side hiring.
If they wanted to stop ads the first thing they would do is lobby politicians to classify adblocking as theft so they can go after people making and updating them, most of the internet is funded by ads now and it's a billion dollar industry. If they wanted to do this, they could absolutely do it and have justification for it being passed.
After that, cut the adrev money you give to influencers (or promise them more money) and tell them it's because of adblock, they will then start moaning that the million dollars a year they currently make just isn't enough and they aren't sure they can keep making videos about minecraft tiddy mods anymore. This will turn all the braindead people that watch them into advocates for stamping out adblock on social media.
If they want to stop unauthorized browsers barely anyone uses they can make up some nonsense about safety as they are currently doing about AI, and push for more controls and legal requirements they have to follow for "safety of users" (which will effectively block all the smaller browsers out). Regulations when demanded by the big companies are always used to block out smaller competition these days.

They don't have to stop everyone, they just have to stop the majority who are mostly all tech illiterate and easily nudged.
Why bring in the government when all you have to do is not click it :(
I can understand loneliness increasing as its rare nowadays finding people who adds more to others life than the costs of current relationships.
In a world everyone becomes so tribal, they hate because their tribe hate, they like what their tribes likes, they act the way their tribes want, there is little room for own individuality. You know someone from a tribe, odds are you already knows everyone of their niches. Then, either you belong to their tribes or is against it. So, you have two alternatives: either you gonna hate that perdon, or youre basically reinforcing your own tribes ideals.
If you think this ***of tribalism just a pile of ***, maybe being alone is a way, or establishing relationship to people alike, that are also rare: nowadays, majority of people requires to belong somewhere. They need to feel safe, thus joining any of the available tribes.
But nothing is without cost. Giving up your own individuality to belong to tribe, spending their time hating or endorsing something, or simply being alone can potentially inflict psyxhologocal dmg to many.
No wonder depression and related symptoms are rising everywhere. Im not sure if its something specifuc to one or other country, but I feel like our world is more toxic than ever
Doomscrolling is a mental addiction just like gambling, vidya, etc. You get exposed to so many different ideas/stimulii/interactions so quickly that normal activities become boring. It's not easy to match that bar of stimulus using day to day activities, and the thought of being able to instantly and effortlessly 'amuse' yourself is too tempting to your subconscious.
You have to treat it like an addiction to overcome it, and that means not engaging with fake stimulii at all. Go a week without it and you'll find yourself more able to enjoy basic things like sitting outside on a nice day or hiking in the woods. You don't need to be a millionaire or even have a lot of excess money to replace your smartphone with healthy habits. A vehicle(or public transport) and a few bucks to cover gas/ticket is good enough unless you live in a total shithole.

Tribalism is part of our nature, we have our conscious mind that gives us more control over what we do but we still have all our instinctive monkey man drives and needs that lead to us all pretty much acting in the same way. Not gonna go into it too much but this is why religion is a cornerstone of all successful societies, and why ours is falling into chaos now we removed it.
Religion was about being part of a mega tribe, that was one of its greater functions to society.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
