I still wonder what they'd do to XI after it's "done". Remember how much money they devoted to XIV because they absolutely refused to have a numbered title be erased from existence. Now it's very prolific.

Based on recent statements, it seems that they'd rather keep it on life support until it dies of negligence than actually put in the effort to restructure it as something that can last.
If they're concerned about having a numbered Final Fantasy no longer exist, they're more likely to create some kind of product that acts as a stand-in where people can still experience the story. Maybe something along the lines of Final Fantasy Ever Crisis where you get an abridged retelling in mobile game format, complete with in-game purchases to help them
