I hate when I read a technical book and the author starts rambling or not being linear in text.

Learning a concept is already a non-trivial task, it just gets harder if I also need to interpret what the author is trying to tell and linking multiple parts to form a coherent idea and relate it to the main topic.

I guess its all about preferences but for me, a cut and dry approach is my prefered one.

Yeah, this sounds like bad communication on the author's part. When it comes to explaining something, ESPECIALLY technical subjects, the most effective teachers will turn the material into a story. Humans are hard-wired to better create knowledge when presented into a sequential, narrative form. (Not fairy tales or nursery rhyme ***, but structured discourse like "first there's this, and then this happens, and that leads to this, etc")

My 3rd grader came home and told us that his class was assigned to write persuasive writing papers. They were shown a map and told to choose a country and write on why it would be a good idea to vacation there.

My son, who is largely unaware of geopolitical matters, chose Russia. /facepalm

Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.
I'm sure a lot of kids would've chosen it because it's the biggest lol

Politics aside, I would like to visit Russia one day just to see it with my own eyes. If I had the wealth, I'd want to try living in (mostly) every country for even a little while. Like 1-6 months, depending how much I like it.

Objectively Russia is a beautiful country with a rich culture. Unfortunately it's leadership is nuts. I'd love to visit Tussia, if it ever gets it's ***straight in my lifetime.

US confirm that in 2014 an interstellar onbject fell to earth.

While it seems kinda obvious some sort of life form outside earth, even “inteligent” life form, its kinda amusing trying to make a parallel with out earthly experience.

For example, as earth will perish at some point, the persistence of human race would imply migrating from earth to another planet. Similar how a virus or bacteria do: constantly spreading while killing the host. Sad but true comparison.

My question would be if only our planet have enough resources to transport even a couple of human safely to the outside of solar system, as supposelly no other planet here would allow human life. It would be necessary looking for another planet with similar temperature and botanical conditions to provide the bare minimum for humans to begin the exploration/reprodution.

TBF, i dont see any way to perpetuate human race with the only earth resources. All we doing at some point will just turn in cosmic dust.

Seeing a spider that made my room its own house, and have been standing in my ceiling for over a week, in almost the exact same place, makes me wonder how silly is the human concept of freedom, life purpose, time, etc.

Man. One of all of our favorite high school teachers got caught grooming students. He was always a super charismatic dood. All the *** were always drawn to him, hanging out at his desk. I'm not overly surprised. Working with teenage girls for 40 years probably warps your brain. Temptation gets the best of us.

You know, I have been thinking lately that someone should invent some sort of drug that completely supress all of the body urges like luxury, sexual excitation, etc.

Because, being pragmatical af, once you supposely get done with your job of perpetuating human specie, there is only the downside of carnal desire. I believe life conditions could improve once you really dont feel that type of need at all. More time you can devote on productive deeds.

Actually, I believe you can make a parallel between the body needs and feelings and evolution: the less you are affected by those, the more rational you get, and for human specie, more rational equates to higher intelligence.

Going further down the rabbit hole, I believe humans see the world in term of duality because of that inherent duality that is the human brain: the emotional and rational side. Normally, most of the "bad" things could be related to the emotional actions like anger, lust, avarice (that no wonder, are the 7 deadly sins) while most products of the rational side of the brain are deemed as "good".

I dunno how much I agree with that. Passion and desire do get in the way of progress, but they also drive it.

I mean, everything depends on the person.

A desire can drive a person to create the cure for cancer.... or blow up a church.

It's a diceroll.

You want pussy, you're driven to get a good paying job, be healthy and attract a mate.... or you start kidnapping and raping them. Pendulum swings both ways.

You know what I can't believe we haven't invented yet? A reliable lie detector. We have all this AI technology and knowledge of the mental, emotional, and physical aspects of the brain. But we're still relying on measuring a person's heartbeat and respiration to make an analysis that's only slightly more reliable than guessing.

You want to invent something to make people more rational, invent something that's 100% accurate at figuring out if the person is trying to mislead. And then hook that thing up to politicians during a live debate lol

Think about it for literally only 5 seconds, and you won't know why you ever didn't understand why we don't have that.

There are MANY things we could and should have, except for the obvious reasons.

Yes, but something less intrusive.

Some pill that can achieve both, but without inflicting a (physical) damage.

Boils down to what do you see as the purpose of existence. Is it merely to serve a future generation you may never meet and probably have little to no feelings toward, or is it to find personal joy and fulfillment?

Your desire to remove what makes us human is one that has been shared many times throughout history, and every time its attempted it fails. Because to reduce us to a colony of ants is to miss what makes us human in the first place.

Have you seen Equilibrium? You should watch it. Everyone should, it's where we're headed.

Of course it's a movie so the obvious happens. But the concept, the reality of prozium. Let's do it.

Or NZT I'm in for that too. (which they unironically sell now, though obviously not "NZT")
