Yes it makes more sense for people to comprehend temperature when it relates to them.
I appreciate having a scale with larger numbers. Fahrenheit is the only Imperial number that I don't mind at all because it's still pretty useful and at least doesn't need to be divided or multiplied by made-up numbers.

But temperature is all relative and arbitrary anyway. I know the idea is "0 degrees feels cold, 100 degrees feels hot", but anything colder than like 55 degrees or hotter than 85 degrees is already enough to start slowly killing you from exposure. At that point it's just a matter of how quickly, and how much you do to combat it. Fahrenheit was designed with its numbers chosen at random anyway. 30 degrees for freezing point of water (which was wrong) and 90 degrees for internal human body temperature (which was also wrong).

So in defense of Celsius, at least it's based on something a little less arbitrary. Knowing the freezing and boiling points of water (on Earth) are handy for literally every science, and extremely useful for food storage and cooking. It's also helpful to know at a glance if you need to cover your garden from frost.

Aside from the fact that literally everything is made up, on top of that it isn't "on earth" it's at sea level, so it's not even accurate everywhere, close though.

Like most measurements Fahrenheit is based on a scale, just it isn't decimal. Ya'll never learned how to convert to hex or octal and it shows.

Must've missed that lesson when school was teaching us how to line dance.

Which has definitely come in handy less times than 0

Oh, god. #PTSD.

The "standards" are definitely lacking. Like some people are arguing to still teach cursive yet nobody teaches how to file taxes or budget. Not to mention that at least in the US ever since the "no child left behind" nonsense people graduate with a severe lack of fundamental knowledge. I know grown adults who can't do fractions or even divide well...

Schools are a really fascinating issue to me. I really don't even know what the answer would be, though I'm sure most of us could agree that cursive can go the way of the dodo.

As someone who dropped out of failed miserably at university and then tried and succeeded phenomenally at college, I almost wonder if the answer is hidden in that somewhere. Like, instead of teaching children as though they're in university, teach them as though they're in college. Relate literally everything to the real world, and explain why it's important. Present it in a way that has kids asking questions and having a dialogue instead of just having someone talk at them for hours at a time.

Talking about education, seeing how kids are growing up nowaday, i feel like more than ever parents need to provide themselves the first years of education.

Because i feel the world is providing too much influence in many directions (games, tv, cellphones, social medias, increasing amount of children coming from unbalanced environment and so on). Its very hard to predict what the “final result” will be, but personally i think its bad given so many youngsters are so shallow, so futile and mainly, emotionally fragile and weak to survive in a world that is constantly becoming more competitive and hard to live.

At least in early age, when kids simply have no resistance, no discerniment to influences, parents should assume this responsibility and protect them till an age they can have a better way to decide whats good and whats not for them.

Technical education isnt or shouldnt be the most important. At any age people can learn everything provided they have a solid foundation

I just saw two spoiler videos of it, and in both i feel like that story is very sour and creepy.

I've been struggling for a while to come up with a good way to describe what makes my RPG engine different. It's been on the tip of my tongue this whole time, knowing myself how it's different but not knowing how to explain it to others.

To most people those are the same thing.

most people don't know a lot of things. colleges tend to be more focused on undergraduate degrees while universities have large post-graduate and research departments. people in the us tend to say "going to college", but there is a reason there are two terms.

they key is to be smart enough to realize how dumb you are and to work from there.

It’s not even an insult, humanity is extremely dumb.

We can’t all be 8 billion geniuses lol
You and are are average dumb like most people.
We might just be a bit more self reflective than the average by realizing this.

This may have been the case about 70 years ago in the States, but these days the two terms are almost completely interchangeable. About the only difference is you rarely see state-funded schools titled as a "College"...but there are certainly plenty of colleges with graduate/post-graduate programs as well.

I do know the difference is more codified in other places, and yes it did used to be so here, too- but not for a long time.

well... no.

100 was supposed to be blood temperature for a healthy person. He missed.

0 was the coldest endothermic reaction he knew. As I forgot what it was, no idea of the accuracy.

Metric makes more sense but I was raised in the good old Fahrenheit USA.

Pretty sure he set zero as the temperature at which plain ice would not melt in a saltwater solution, and 32 was the observed temperature which that plain ice started to melt.

Its so bad that if you are smart DON'T LET PEOPLE FIND OUT.

Honest. Been there, done that, got bullied all through school because of it.

Being known as a brainy girl is no way to get dates either.
